Advantages: Cheap and lots to choose from
Disadvantages: Untidy, alot of items broken or ruined
Recently where I live we have had a new mall built in the centre of town and in that facility is a Primark. I remember the buzz around the town when it was revealed that this shop would be in the mall. It was as if Elvis Presley had risen from the dead and was coming to the little old City of Plymouth! My Aunty had often ranted and raved about what she had picked up when she went to Torquay for the day (this was the nearest Primark to us at the time). So naturally I was really excited and couldn't wait to have my first experience of shopping here.
The day came when the place opened and I couldn't fit through the doors because it was so packed with people that were looking for a bargain. I left it a few more weeks to let the crowd die down and went for it.
To be quite honest I was bitterly disappointed. I walked the length and breadth of the shop looking for something and by the time I left the shop I did wonder what all the fuss was about.
I have been back a quite few times since and picked up a couple of bits but they were no more of a bargain than I would find in a place like Peacocks or even a supermarket clothes department.
I find that the shop is so vast that you have to have time and patience to really root through the things, almost to Charity shop level. I find that it is always a mess with things dropped on the floor, clothes on the wrong sized hangers and there are never any staff around to help.
The queues for the checkout are always humungous which always puts me off buying anything although when I have queued I have got to the checkout pretty quickly and it hasn't been too bad.
If I go into Primark on a Saturday then I have to expect to wait a very long time for the changing room and with two children under two that can be a challenging task!
The sizes of the clothes differ a huge amount in this shop and I end up taking about three different sizes of one thing into the changing room with me. I'm usually an 8 (although Ive just had a baby so trying to lose the baby weight at the moment) but sometimes I can be a 12 or more in this shop.
Quite alot of the items that I have picked up have had buttons missing or holes here and there (possibly from being chucked on the floor by uncaring customers?) so if you are going to buy I would advise you to check your items thoroughly before queuing up.
After being pretty negative about Primark in this review you will probably be surprised to hear that I have actually bought some things from the shop but I'm afraid to say that they haven't lasted very long. My husband bought some cheap shirts and they are going bobbly already and the tops I bought are fading. I don't mind because they weren't very expensive but I know if I shopped somewhere like Asda, they wouldn't go downhill quite so fast.
Maybe I am just looking in the wrong places or not as skilled as other girls and woman at looking for a bargain but I just don't think Primark is all it's cracked up to be and although I do go in there every now and again I am quite weary about buying stuff.
Summary: I wouldn't write this shop off altogether but it's not all its cracked up to be.

- 19/11/08 I agree the sizes are a bit hit and miss but I'm usually a 10 and Primark makes me an 8 yippee! |
