Advantages: Cheap, up to the minute, great for teenagers on fixed budget
Disadvantages: Not great quality, sizing tends to be small
We have only recently had a Primark open near us so were total oblivious to all the fuss that had been surrounding them in the press over the last few months.
However now having visited for myself I can see what everyone was going on about. They sell most clothing ranges for men, women and children together with shoes and houshold good such as towels and bedding.
Prices are ridiculous - how can you possibly sell a stretchy top for less than £2 and make a profit. I did notice that there is quite a variety in the quality of some of the ranges - also even within the same range. Some of the material used is very thin and I can imagine that it would be worn out after a number of washes.
But Primark is not going for the end of the market that will wants quality and classic lines that will last, it is going for the disposable fashion side of the market. There are lots of teenage girls who don't have lots of money to spend but want up to the minute fashion. Is there any point in paying £15 for a t-shirt that will last years but won't be worn in 3 months time because it is "so last week" when you can spend £2 for the same result.
For some basic items its great - but do beware that they do skimp on the fabric so possibly buy the next size up than you would in any other shop!
Summary: You get what you pay for - but if you don't expect it to last that's fine

- 02/02/09 i do like primark for its costume jewellery, i do worry too about the ethical side but on my tight budget it has been a life saver. x |

- 02/02/09 Hmmm, the reason they can sell at such low profits is down to the incredibly low standard manufacturing houses they use - I would definitley not shop here on ethical grounds. |
