Advantages: Price, image, quality.
Disadvantages: Hanley isn't on my door step!
I first started shopping in Primark a few years back when I went to the UK Potteries Shopping Centre store in Hanley. I was surprised by what I saw, friends had often told me that although Primark offered great clothes at great prices the stores were always untidy with clothes thrown all over the place; a very untidy sight. What I saw at the Hanley store was quite the opposite, the clothes were neatly laid out, in piles or on coat hangers, each catagorised by the size or type. I was amazed some of my friends had said what a mess the stores could be, and since have checked out many others including the one in the Telford Shopping Centre, and the one near the Bullring in Birmingham, and I think it's safe to say something has changed, it seems the stores are taken more care and it's no longer a struggle to find a simple piece of clothing in your size. I think this is one of the reasons Primark has received a bad image, though with things changing I think it will only be time before it's image improves.
So what about the clothes? I've been very impressed by the prices at Primark stores across the county, they continually strive to give customers low cost clothing, sometimes a standard T-shirt will cost half the price for a similar one in River Island. Of course everyone knows Primark has an excellent pricing strategy, but it's somewhat tainted by the fact that some people believe the quality suffers as a result of the reduced price. Personally I would say differently, though not completely disagree. If we were comparing a pair of jeans with say Top Man or River Island, yes Primark's quality isn't quite up to scratch, but when I'm spending £10 at Primark instead of £40 at these other stores, I really don't mind about a small drop in quality, after all, even if the jeans only lasted a quarter of the time compared to Top Man or River Island jeans, I could get four pairs in the time and each would be different! In all honesty, I'm still wearing jeans I bought about two years ago and they only cost me a tenner! So it can't be that bad!
But what about the clothing image? I've seen great advances in Primark's clothing line, it used to be very dull and really quite different from trends in the market, however now I often buy clothing that friends think are from Top Man or River Island. I bought a cardigan from Primark for £6, plain black, just something to jazz up what I was wearing that day... my mate bought a similar cardigan, in fact they look identical, only he spent £12 in Top Man! Primark is looking closely at it's rivals and producing clothing that is current with today's trends, and what I buy goes down nicely with my friends.
And to top it all off the customer service is pretty good too. Of course it depends where you go, but at my favourite store in Hanley the staff are helpful and always out to provide you with the best customer service.
Having just read back through my review I must point out that I don't work at Primark, it could easily be assumed that I do so. Primark just ticks all my boxes, great price and great clothing, what more could you ask for? And as a poor student I'm always looking for a deal!
Summary: A cheaper clothing store that offers good quality and good customer service.
