Advantages: Cheap and cheerful
Disadvantages: Long queues, messy shops
I didn't really get into Primark until about 3 years ago, when a branch opened in Oxford, where I work. I'm no longer an impoverished student but still find myself skint much of the time, so the appeal for me is in their rock-bottom prices.
They sell clothes for men, women and children, shoes, accessories, and homeware. The quality isn't great but there is loads of choice and it's a great place to pick up some bargains when you'll only wear something a few times (admit it, we all do it!)
There have been issues raised recently on TV documentaries about the conditions the factory workers in Asia have to work in. This does worry me a bit, but like so many others it's overridden my my own selfishness and desire to have the latest thing at next to no cost (for me)...
I sometimes pop in at lunchtime and often after work, but my two complaints are always the same: the messiness of the shopfloor, and the long queues to pay. Often it's impossible to find the item you want in the right size (even though you know it's probably there somewhere), as clothes are always falling off the hangers, scattered over the floor, but back in the wrong place, etc. They seem to have lots of staff on the shopfloor, but they seem to spend most of their time chatting when it would be better spent tidying up! The queue length is a big problem for me as I'm usually in a hurry to get back to work, and I don't want to spend half my lunch hour in a queue! To be fair, this is due to the popularity of the shop as they do usually have all their tills open at this time of day.
However, despite my two main complaints I'll continue to shop in Primark, until I get a big pay rise at least. Their clothes are fashionable, they get new stuff in all the time, and it's CHEAP! Now all I need is one in my hometown so I can shop at weekends when I've a bit more time on my hands.
Summary: Go for it - if you can be bothered!

- 04/12/09 Agree with your comments, their stores are always messy. Also hate that Primark is always bloody busy. Shopping stresses me out generally but in Primark there are people everywhere - wherever you turn - and it makes the whole experience uncomfortable. I usually just quite while I'm ahead and don't bother! |

- 04/12/09 Brilliant prices for your hols but I do agree that some shops are a bit messy and I've found they amount of choice available varies considerably. Great review:) |

- 16/05/09 Great for me as my three girls would cost me a packet otherwise. |
