I had my very first Primark experience today. You may think I am a little behind, and perhaps yes. The closest Primark to where I stay is about 13 miles away, so it's not exactly on my doorstep, but not that far away either. So we set off this afternoon and I can now see what all the fuss is about.
Primark sell clothes, accessories and some homewear things at really cheap prices. I watched the documentary about 6 months ago about how Primark can sell the clothes so cheap - they pay the Foreign workers pennies. However I am not defending them for paying them so little, as it keeps the Indian workers in jobs to feed and clothe their families, but I think they could be paid a little better as most of the profits from Primark go to management, advertising and so on. Anyway this is how most of the clothes and food are made all around the world and there is no getting away from the fact.
So back to the shop. The Dunfermline branch was pretty big, and it was on 2 levels. Downstairs was the mens and children section, and the whole of the upstairs was for women.
The Shop was mobbed. Each clothes rack had people pawing at it, and the queues were huge! The staff seemed to work well and fast, so everything was under control quickly. Staff were dressed smartly with the men wearing Ties, and I think they looked professional even though it is a budget shop. The racks and table of clothes looked a bit messy, as I think people grab at things in here, and rummage about, but again I saw staff sorting the mess.
I couldn't believe the prices in here. I was looking for the Toiletries range, but only found the Make Up, which was a bit of a disappointment, as I keep hearing how xxfoxy-redxx finds 50p Shower Gels in her store, but maybe i'll find this next time. There was shoes, tights, socks, sunglasses and so on for 98p and they looked alright quality. I bought a couple of things. They were
3m Metallic Wrapping paper 98p
2 pairs Tights £1.98
6 Pairs Socks £1.98
1 pair Thick Slipper Socks £1.28
I could have got 6 pairs of Black Tights for 98p, but I was needing tan ones, but even then the price was great!
I will be back here as it is my kind of shop - cheap and cheerful. There is a bad part to the shop in my eyes though and that is the sizing. It looks like the largest size is a 16 and even when I held that up it looked kind of small for a 16. Since I am larger than a 16 just now, then I won't get the benefit of the cheap clothing, but hopefully soon. Most of the clothes look quite thin and you have to wonder if it will withstand many washes, but I guess at the price, you shouldn't have to worry if a £3.86 pair of trousers only lasts 3 months well use.
A great money saving shop.

- 28/06/09 I have found them to be great for good value homeware. I have bought entire sets of double bedding and pillow cases for around £10 and they have lasted surprisingly well. |

- 27/06/09 Quality review. I espcially like Primark for their mens clothes. Bought my other half some lovely shirts from there at bargan prices! |

- 27/06/09 People always say that Primark is cheap because the clothes are very poor quality but I have never had any problems with anything I have ever bought from there. Good review by the way. |
