Advantages: Cheap clothes

Disadvantages: Questions over the sourcing of products

Primark is the United Kingdom's largest discount clothing store, although there are many stores throughout the United Kingdom, the company that operates the stores are actually based in Ireland.

A Primark store can be found in all major cities and towns, within Cardiff a new flagship four storey store has only just been completed in the last couple of years. The store dedicates a level of the floor to different departments, such as the sub ground floor being dedicated to men's clothing and house hold items.

The types of product that are sold in the stores, while being of a low price, could be said to be of high quality. Normally a person can go into the store and buy a top for only a couple of pounds, although there are huge criticisms as to why Primark can charge so little for clothes.

The reasons for this were shown in a Panorama documentary that was shown in BBC One. Although the company states that the clothes are sourced from ethically producers, it would appear that the store is not telling us, the customers the whole truth. As the clothes are often produced in sweat shops, although the company does now state that all producers are no vetted so that this does not happen.

In terms of the staff, what I have found is that there is a mix of both young and older staff members, although from experience when I have a problem I tend to go to the older, as they seem to know how to solve your problems. As with younger staff members, while they may be polite and do their best, they usually just pass you on to a person that can actually help you.

One of the criticisms that could be labelled at the store, like many other discount stores, is the layout of the store, as most of the shops floor space is given over to the products being sold. What this can mean at times when the store is busy, it can get very cramped; as people try to get passed each other in the store. But this is a criticism that could be labelled at most stores these days.

Overall I would recommend the store, simply because of the prices that the store sells the clothes at, as there are not many stores that can match it. Although I would recommend the store, there is still this nagging doubt about how the store sources it stock, but I would leave that up to you to make your own mind up.

Summary: There are not many stores that can march Primark

Unfortunately, it is not just Primark that gets stock from sweatshops. The problem is widespread and not just limited to budget outlets.
