Advantages: Teenagers are not ashamed to be seen in Primark

As the mother of a teenaged girl, I am deeply grateful to Primark. It is now cool to spend the least amount of money on an outfit not the most, thanks to the Primark effect. It has never been easier to make your teenager's clothing allowance stretch so far (not the fabric).

Primark, the budget clothing chain that is springing up in all our town centres mainly stocks cheap and cheerful clothes, shoes and accessories. It does not really carry anything out of the ordinary, so you will not find larger sizes or anything really special, but for kitting out the family for your Sun coupon hols, it's perfect. Swimwear, underwear, flip flops, coverups, tee shirts and cutoff trousers all at a pound or two a piece in sizes 8 to 16.

The quality of the merchandise is OK not top of the range, but for the price it is surprisingly good. Of course you do get what you pay for. Primark clothes are not going to last for years, but with growing teenagers and daily changing trends, this is not a major issue. It is easier to see a 98p top in a pile on the floor of a teenager's bedroom than a £10 top from Oassis for example.

I am not indifferent to the social conscience argument against shopping at Primark, but I wonder how many more expensive clothes chains use similar sources, but have not been found out.
