Advantages: Fashionable yet cheap, spacious, good customer service
Disadvantages: Long queues, not the highest quality products, ethical controversy
Primark is a retailer which predominantly sells value fashionable clothes. Being a very popular retailer, you almost certainly live reasonably near to one.
My town recently attempted to become a place where people travelled miles to, for doing their shopping. Even though it failed, one of the good things about this "renovation" was the birth of our very own Primark store!
When entering a Primark store, the first thing you notice is, even though there are plenty of products on offer, it is still spacious and doesn't have a claustrophobic feeling. About 7/8 of the store sells clothing and shoes, and the 1/8 sells towels and other similar household products.
Primark is almost always cheaper than other leading clothes retailers, yet it still sells fashionable, "in season" clothes. In general, I find Primark charge about a third of what a shop like New Look would, but for a very similar product. This is a great saving, especially at economic times like these, so definitely makes shopping there worth your while!
The customer service in Primark is very good. When you go to customer services there is usually quite a long queue, but they still manage to serve you quickly and I have never had any problems getting a refund or exchange when I have needed one.
The clothes Primark sells are reasonably high quality, but I find they do last less time than if I had bought them in a different clothes retailer, meaning the quality isn't quite as high.
Another problem with Primark is there is almost always a very long queue at the checkouts, meaning you have to often wait 15-20 minutes just to get served. However, this is worth it for the amount of money you save by shopping there.
There has been some controversy in the past about Primark using slave labour to produce their products, meaning it probably isn't the most ethical place to shop!
To conclude, Primark's products may not be the highest quality or the most ethical, but if you are looking for a bargain, it's the place to shop!
Summary: A great place for affordable clothes.
