Advantages: Cheap!
Disadvantages: Not the most relaxing shopping experience you'll have
Primark offers you a shopping experience on the high street of most large towns in the UK that you wont get in the other high street stores. In some ways it is fantastic and in other ways it is hideous, but for anyone who's on a budget, it is a definite must.
Primark is cheap. Sometimes the cheapness offers exceptional value for money, other times not, but it takes a bit of trial and error to understand what's great and what quite simply is not.
Primark sells childrenswear, ladieswear and menswear and so caters for the whole family. As well as clothes, it sells shoes, accessories, lingerie and homewear. The shop is split into these departments and so it is a matter of heading for the department you're after and then searching.
Primark is usually overstocked, and so there is too much of everything for the space. It is a bit of a nightmare in this respect as there is just so much stock to search through, and certainly in my local store, one rail can hide three of four different styles of tops or trousers one behind the other, so looking at everything there, is very time consuming. Having said that, I quite enoy 'rummaging' through the rails and love the 'hunt' for something special. I don't often go shopping - maybe once every two months - so I have a really good look throughout the store for what's in. It takes forever, but being able to put together some new outfits for the season is a must for me, and doing so in this way, is worth it for damage limitation on my credit card!
Having found something that you like, Primark is not one of those shops where you can simply select your size. In most other shops I know which size of clothing I take but in Primark it really can be one of four as the sizing is so erratic! This makes a trip to the changing rooms a bit cumbersome as you have to carry at least two sizes of everything and forget having someone there to help you with different sizes as in my experience, the staff although very keen and helpful when you can find them, are low on numbers and generally very busy!
As you would expect with a shop selling cheap items, some of the quality is appalling. Some of the quality however is on par with other high street names. I find that it is just a matter of searching through and trying on lots of things, and I am sure to find some real gems. I mix these with labels and high street clothing and find it surprising how often people comment on my primark item as being so desirable. My pumps at the moment for example are Primark. They are the most comfortable pair that I have ever owned, yet cost a mere £6. I have now lost count at how many people have commented on them.
Primark sells it's products cheaply by selling very large quantities of the same item. As such, very distinctive items can be a fashion faux pax as you can end up with the same items as friends and colleagues. If Primark were a brand to be ashamed of, then this might be a further problem, but it is revered for being such great value if you choose wisely and so generally I personally don't find this to be a problem, but I guess it depends what circles you move in!
Despite the flaws of Primark, I do recommend it for such unbelievable pricing. If you can afford not to shop there then fantastic, but for those of us who can't, it really does make following fashion a manageable past-time. and so I award it four dooyoo stars!
Thanks for reading my review and I hope you found it useful :-)
Summary: Worth the experience for some real bargains
