Newest Review: ... items are just as cheap as car boots and charity shops. The most expensive item in Primark I have seen was either £25 or £30, which were ... more
Not as pleased with Primark as I once was

Advantages: Cheap to treat yourself
Disadvantages: Very bad quality - could not give as gifts
For a long time I avoided Primark, and then it said it was going to make sure their suppliers were more ethical although I was still unsure. Anyway we recently got a big new Primark in our town and my intrigue got the better of me.
There is a good range of stuff in there, tons of gorgeous jewellery, pretty shoes it did seem like heaven and as everything seemed good quality I thought that the supplier situation must have been improved.
Having shopped their for a few months now I have come to the conclusion it is just not worth it:
Sizes are not all they seem, myself and other friends and workmates that I have spoke to have all expressed that their usual size is nowhere near the same in primark which was a relief to know it wasn't just me.
When you look close a lot of stuff is very evidently poor quality, I did get a fantastic pair of flared jeans which are the best and most comfy jeans I have ever had but I can't say the same about much of my other purchases - I bought two angel sleeve tunic things in a size 12 as I am size 10 but know the sizes can be out, I wore one for the first time the other day and it was quite a nice fit with the right amount of room in it but alas when I moved my arms the dress ripped all up the back - I was horrified to see that seams could be pulled apart like I tearing paper! I am wary whilst wearing the other one in case it does the same thing - I have had them in my wardrobe for a while so unfortunately could not return them.
I bought a vest top with glittery motif on it and yes it warned that you may loose some glitter when washing it but what it didn't say is that the first time you wash it, all of the glitter spreads out all over the top in little gluey, lumpy particles and you cannot wear it again! It was also too big for the size it was meant to be anyway.
I am wary of even buying the more expensive stuff in primark now as I question the quality of everything in there - also something else that seems prevalent in our primark is that clothing is often on the wring hanger, my friend bought a size 14 top and found it was a size 12 on a 14 hanger so betwen that and the loose threads she found all over it, she took it back.
The range of jewellery is enormous and there is so much great stuff however having bought quite a few items from there I have now realised that:
All the metal jewellery whether plated or not will tarnish at a rate of knots and go pink whilst your skin goes green!
A lot of the ring decorations will very quickly and easily seperate from the band part of it, diamante and beads fall out rapidly and in actual fact if you look around the shelves you will see numerous items already missing what I have described here before it has even been bought. They do those charm bracelets with loads of charms to collect - gorgeous to look at but tarnish, lose diamante and go awful very, very quickly so mine are now unsuitable to wear - god forbid anybody gave these to any one as a gift!
Yes our shop does get the messy jumble sale look and as mentioned above you find the product is a different size to what it says on the hangar it is hung on. Getting served isn't too bad.
I did encounter a snooty sales assistant on the customer services desk on the upper floor last time I went in - there was that many people queuing to return duff merchandise that I thought it was a till area.
I got told not to do it again! Why not though, she had a till and there was no one queuing after to me so what else was she going to do!
So that is it for me, everything smacks of being made under pressure, en masse and with no care for quality. The majority of what you buy there will be a waste of money and cannot be made ethically at £2 for a pair of wedge shoes!
Summary: Not worth buying from here
