Advantages: cheap, fashionable, disposable
Disadvantages: 'is that from Primark?'
Where's my diguise? I'm off to Primark, can I borrow a fiver? Wow! This shop took over from C&A in my local shopping centre. Boo!, I said, as I wanted a Hennes. Another Matalan type shop, just what I need, Sunday afternoons would be spent queuing for hours to pay, surrounded by screaming kids (my own) while I contemplated Hari Kari for the sake of a £6 T-shirt and some £1 nylon trainer socks - with guaranteed atheltes foot included. But, oh no, I have seen the light, I am converted to the mecca of the turquoise plastic bag. I love this shop. After avoiding it for ages, curiosity got the better of me - and the mall creche had guaranteed me 2 hours of queuing time, I entered. I can justify anything if its for my children (look at my Gucci sunglasses, think of the fun you can have playing with the cleaning cloth and case children! type thing) so I looked at the boys clothes. I was expecting nasty shiny 'Tweenies' logos badly transfered onto cheap t-shirts but I was amazed. I bought very tasteful navy and white striped jersey trousers for my baby for £2, they washed and tumbled so well I have bought more in larger sizes as he grows. I got my 4 year old various 'layed-look' t-shirts for £2-£4. The shorts for my 2 year old washed better and kept the size more than his identical Gap ones for only £3. A Digimon and Thomas the Tank pair of beach towels set me back £5 each. I even got a bikini for £5. Unfortunately it is the same as Jades off Big brother, but mine fits! Mens summer vests were £2 each and are excellent quality, the mens shorts- cargo and calf-length were under £5. And fleeces, both zip up and overhead were £4 each in a range of colours and plains styles. I can't really comment on the womens fashions, I'm still a bit snobby, but I bought some calf length 'parachute' style for a £5 and they are amazing value and really comfy. The selctions seem to be for young, teen/early twentys, with crop
T's and cut off shorts and over 40's with more 'sensible' styles. But it is a far superior range to Matalan. I did but lounging pajama type wear, they have louging/casual pull on trousers in a range of bright colours and styles. The underwear section is a huge range of matronly to lap-dancer and over last Christmas they had a display that included see-thru, fishnet and red satin. I was really impressed with the buyers imagination for all the age groups and styles. There is something for everyone here and you will find something. I think that its impossible to leave this store without spending any money, they are clever for making the high 'fashion' so cheap that its easily disposable, which is what fashion is. When I queued - with a heavy heart, knowing the wait - I was amazed at the speed they rang everyone through. It was a very enjoyable experience.
