Quality Paperbacks Direct (QPD) Highstreet Shopping

Newest Review: ... the following categories: cult reading, light reading, literary fiction, non-fiction, prizewinners, thrillers, true lives and QPD recommends. I have just visited the site and there is a current choice of 94 titles for new members which, in my opinion, is quite an extensive selection. QPD also invites new members through advertisements in magazines and papers. Whilst the offer is usually the same, the choice of titles is less broad so I would definitely recommend consulting the website before making your final selection of 5 books. When will I receive my books? My first order came in just over 2 weeks which seemed a decent enough delivery pe... more

Quality Paperbacks Direct (QPD): those darn editor's choices (775 words)

I've was a member of Quality Paperbacks Direct (QPD) for about 6 months now so I feel have had adequate experience of the company to write an accurate opinion on the subject. Before you sign up, I'd recommend you read up on the company first. Firstly, what is QPD? QPD stands for Quality Paperbacks Direct and is a company which offers a wide range of titles all in paperback with a large discount compared to the recommended retail price. Unlike on the high street where you usually have to wait a few months for a recently published hardback book to be printed in paperback, but QPD offers exclusive paperback editions so you avoid the wait. How do I ...  Read the complete review

Awful company, absolutely awful service (304 words)

I'd seriously recommend that no-one joins this book club, as - their prices are no cheaper than the main high street shops, and in some cases more expensive - their recommended retail prices for books seem to be much more expensive than those elsewhere (I bought a book for them for £5.99, which has an RRP elsewhere of £6.99, but they claim has an RRP of £9.99) - their range is not even as good as their sister book site, bol.com - they continually send you information/catalogues/emails - they do not respond to requests, either by phone or in writing (when I've asked for an invoice or confirmation that they've received a letter, neither has ...  Read the complete review

Quality Paperbacks Direct (QPD): There are better ways of buying books (195 words)

I've been with QPD for a while so I think I can give a well judged appraisal of them. Some of their prices are very good and if you like popular fiction (whatever that is) you can get supermarket style buy2 get 1 free type deals. However, you do have a commitment to buy a minimum number of books in a year. Furthermore if you forget to cancel the editor's choice you'll be lumbered with that month's selection. Delivery can be a nightmare, it's handled by White Arrow, and can take up to month - which is ridiculous. Their customer service is typical of many and is pretty bad, replies to emails can take a week. You might be lucky and actually get through ..  Read the complete review

QPD (Q Phor Days) (702 words)

Sorry about the title but queuing for days is exactly what you will do if you ever have to use QPD's customer helpline. Ok, lets start at the beginning. I have been a QPD customer for 4 years and until Christmas 2001 was relatively happy with their service. QPD is a book club that sends you a club magazine once a month but you only have an obligation to buy 6 books in your first year as a member - after that you don't have to purchase anything if you don't want to. In every club magazine they have an Editors Choice which is a book or books picked presumably by the editor!! Be warned - these books will be automatically sent to you if you ...  Read the complete review

Quality Paperbacks Direct (QPD): not bad, not brilliant (618 words)

In general, I'm not a fan of either book clubs or cd clubs. I tend to find their selection way too limited, and the prices aren't usually that great, once you've had your super-duper-value opening offer. But when I saw a flyer for QPD, which included several books which I'd already planned to buy, all for a quid each, I decided to give it a go anyway. What's to lose? Well, as long as you're not committed by the club into buying several extra books, there's no problem. And this is the case with QPD. No obligation, get your introductory offer, then buy as much or as little as you like. And all delivered to your door. As far as ...  Read the complete review
