Advantages: CHEAP
Disadvantages: None
Richer Sounds almost makes me regret being one of thos people who buys a Hi-Fi and then keeps it until it breaks down. I almost want to be the guy who has to buy the latest equipment every year, just so I can feel the savings mounting up. I have no idea how they manage it. I couldn't be bothered reading the whole blurb - I just got as far as the written assurance that nothing dropped off a lorry, and that if they say it's brand new then it is, and I was happy. You simply will not believe the prices. I wanted to swap my Hi-Fi, through which I monitor my computer, for a surround system - because I got hold of a soundcard with 8 discreet outputs. I also want my system to be powerful enough to fill a very large room, should I wish to give a public concert of anything in surround. So I started looking at the price of AV amps around the 100watt per channel mark, and speakers of 100watts and above, and nearly died. Five identical speakers of 100Watts, from any reasonable manufacturer, were going to require a second mortgage, and, although the amplifiers start quite cheap, I just fell in love with a fairly expensive Yamaha model. I was just about ready to give up, and use cheap and nasty powered desktop speakers, when I happened to buy What Hi-FI, and found an advert for Richer Sounds. Right there, on the page were the Mission701s, RRP of £169, for £79.99 a pair. Which means I got 6 speakers for £240 instead of £510. Sound good? Well it certainly did when I also found the amplifier I wanted at a discount of £110. Service has been great, both on-line, over the phone, and in-store. The sales team are helpful, knowledgable, and friendly. They also don't try and push stuff on you. They will use lines such as, "And do you have the cables you need?" if you buy a set of speakers, but if you say you're ok there's no push beyond that. What can I say. If you enjoy throwing money away, then carry on. You're keeping
the expensive stores in business which is good for me, cos I figure once Richer Sounds have a monopoly, they'll stop being quite so cheap. But seriously, I would recommend them to anyone.
