Advantages: Unique, quirky pieces.

Disadvantages: Can be quite expensive.

River Island is a great high street shop and can be quite reasonable for things such as tops, trousers and handbags. However, shoes and jewellery are rather expensive, but definatley worth it.
They stock all kinds of things from tracksuits to evening dresses, pyjamas to stilettos. All of the items that River Island sell have a quirky edge to the latest fashions including lots of different prints and textures.
Their "going-out" dresses are very unique, and quite unlike most other high street shops. Many are designer inspired and give the quality of high end fashion designers too.
I really like to shop at River Island (admittedly after pay day!) and especially in the sale you can pick up a really good bargain.
River Island shops are located all over the country and have stores on most major town hish streets. Definatley my first stop for a out of this world new outfit.

Summary: A great shop to visit, even if you're just window shopping.
