Advantages: nice clothes
Disadvantages: price
River Island has stores all over the UK. They sell fashion clothes for men and women and their shops are in most towns and cities (some cities have more than one shop).
Shops have had a revamp over the past 5 years and most River Island stores now have neon lights in for some strange reason (you can probably tell I'm not a fan!) The prices also seem to have gone up over the past few years.
I have to say I'm more of a fan of the mens department (for my partner) than the womens, probably because there is less choice of mens shops around me. I think the womens department has too much competition from the likes of Jane Norman, Topshop, H&M and now Primark with their fashion range. The garments just don't warrant the price tags for me.
I'm shocked when I go into town and see River Island heaving on a saturday, who buys from there? I really do feel for the quality they are overpriced.
I do like some of the clothes and the dresses in particular are fashionable and usually made from good fabric but again whopping great prices on them.
I like River Island changing rooms as they are spacious and have good lighting. The staff are also very helpful when they have the time.
Overall I like the clothing and returning things is simple but so overpriced. Wait til sale time!
Summary: great at sale time

- 06/06/09 I agree with you - I liked it better when pre-revamp. |

- 02/06/09 I just wrote a review on Qype that said almost exactly the same thing! I reckon River Island & Next are both in the same boat - pretending they're 'designer' brands and selling overpriced average stuff that isn't anything special. |
