Advantages: quality, nice fashion
Disadvantages: expensive
I don't usually buy anything for myself out of river island because I'm a fairly lumpy size 18-20 and I despite not usually liking a lot of their clothes, I doubt they would fit me anyway. It would take two of their dresses to cover me aha but my daughter is very fond of River island so she usually drags me in.
River Island sell shoes, clothes, tights and hoisery, bags and purses. They have a great range of acessories too where you can buy earrings, bracelets, rings and necklaces and some of them are ever so pretty.
In River Island, the average top will be about £15 some more and some less. Highly fashionable jackets will be about £60, and you can get some really nice jeans from there for about £25 onwards. They're jeans are expensive but they are brilliant quality and look amazing. The dresses cost £25 onwards and they have some gorgeous playsuits from around £20.
They have mostly the same amount of things available for men, except skirts, dresses and tights of course. I paticularly like the mens roll sleeve shirts they sell which start at £25.00.
I think that they are really expensive, but they are great quality. What you will see on someone famous one day, you'll find something very similar in River island another day, they're very up to date with the latest fashion. Despite being good quality, I wouldn't buy some things out of there like tights which are about £5.99 onwards, because you can buy the exact same elswhere like Primark for a lot less. I think some of the jewellery is over priced too, like some of the necklaces are £12.99 and they're not silver or gold, they're just metal and you can buy a gold one for that price.
Now, the bags. The bags in river island, in my opinion are lovely. I don't like all of them, some of the leather ones aren't very nice at all, but some of the material ones are so different, I've never seen ones like them. My daughter bought one for £25, and it has a charm on it with three fluffy pom poms and an owl, its so different and looks awesome.
I love River Island style although I definitely think it is aimed more at the younger generation which is perfectly acceptable. I think they should improve their clothes sizing though! My daughter always has size 8's and occasionally size 10 clothes from New Look, but had to buy a size 14 in River Island in more than one top. I think their clothes come very small which could make teenage girls feel negative about themselves. The clothing and accessories are expensive, some too expensive, but you do get quality which is important when choosing clothing so if you can afford it, then go for it.
I've been in a birmingham store, wolverhampton, west bromwich and Telford and have always been very pleased with the service from staff that I've recieved. I've also noticed that a lot of the stores are designed similarly which is modern and looks good. The stores are always clean and tidy except for the sale rail which has been raided by probably every woman in the shop.
I've never returned anything to river island but I've heard that it is good and that they're happy to accept things back as long as they're in a reasonable condition and you have your reciept.
Overall, River island is a good shop with good quality fashion that comes at a price. I would recommend going there, but only if you have about £50 to spend.
Summary: nice clothes at a price.
