Advantages: special offers
Disadvantages: more expensive than the others by a long shot
Everything you want from a store and a little bit more? No not in my opinion. I have the advantage of having several supermarkets close to where I live such as Asda, Somerfield and Kwiksave and Safeway are the most expensive of them all.
I do the bulk of my shopping at asda simply for the prices and variety not for the location as it is the furthest from my house.
I am a bargain hunter at heart and show me a three for two or a bogof (buy one get one free) and I am there stocking up for christmas.
I have always hunted out the best bargains from all the supermarkets but as I said Asda is the cheapest and best.
When I was at the bingo on Friday one of the women I sit near told me that safeway's offer this week was twelve cans of diet or ordinary coke for only £1.99 my heart missed a beat, I could go on and on about diet coke as that has replaced blood in my veins as I drink so much of the stuff but I won't. Phew I hear you all say thank god for that.
Anyway this morning I decided to do my weekly shopping at safeway in view of this offer and to my amazement there was plenty of coke left. Usually with these offers you get to the shop and they have run out of the specials but not this time.
It was limited to three per customer so my hubby and my mum and me all got three cases each. Then we did our weekly shop as normal.
I was astounded at the difference in prices compared to asda etc it wasn't just one or two pence of a difference on some items but as much as ten pence sometimes.
I usually buy a big tub of asda's own make and it cost's 45p but the equivelent size in safeway was 62p a 17p difference now that is pretty shocking but it got worse, A box of fairy soappowder was 55p cheaper in asda and other items were considerably dearer too.
I will however tell you about some good things that safeway offer such as hard to get products such as dante's inferno sauces which as the
name suggests is a red hot chilli sauce. Safeway is the only supermarket that I know where you can purchase this item and also similar items.
Until last year they had a loyalty scheme called ABC points where you recieved points for your shopping, 1 point for every pound spent and when you had saved enough points you could reddem them for a number of items such as kettles and irons and even dry cleaning instore.
They did away with this card and brought out the weekly special offers which are a bargain if there is any left but the price differences on the other items cost more than you probably save.
Have you noticed that when you go into any other supermarket they have a trolly filled with everyday items from the store and the cost and another filled with the same items from another store and the price difference well it is always safeway who comes out the worst and now I can see why.
Sorry safeway but I will only return for the bargains from now on your prices don't fit my budget.
I have given safeway three stars for the diet coke being on special and nothing else. If you are wise and have the choice do your shopping somewhere else.
