Advantages: Shop & Go

Disadvantages: Little Expensive

Safeway is one of the big 4 supermarkets in the UK and in recent weeks one has opened in my near by town and I must say it has revolutionised my shopping habits.

*****Nice Shop, Nice Staff*****

Before the construction of this supermarket I was stuck with having to shop in the Co-ops Fiveways store and in my opinion it is nothing more than a glorified corner shop. The store was tacky, with a very much 70s feel about it, and the people working their seemed to by more interested in their clocking off time than being nice to customers.

Safeway on the other hand is a sleek modern store with 21st Century look and feel to it. The staff are also more up-beat and courteous to their customers and they don’t make you feel an idiot when you ask where something is, as they did at Fiveways.

*****Shop & Go*****

The best thing about the new Safeway store is the Shop & Go facility. Now many of you may well be familiar with this feature but to me it is still a novelty that I find very convenient and easy to use. The Shop & Go facility to those who don’t know is simply a self scanning service that allows you to calculate your bill as you shop and makes it easer to pay for your goods at the special pay points.

It is very easy to use. All you have to do is while you walk round filling your basket with food is simply scan the barcode into the scanner before you put the food into the basket. You then press the ‘plus’ button and hay presto the item is added to your bill. Then if you like, you can press the ‘equals’ button you can see how much you have spent in total at a particular point. Once you have finished your shop you simply return you handiscan to an empty holder and a ‘total’ slip pops out of the rack. You then take it to a Shop & Go pay point and pay the assistant.

This is very simple to use and stops the hassle of having to unload your shopping on to a conveyer b
elt then put it back into your trolley. On your first Shop & Go shop you will have your shopping re-scanned to make sure you have not lied or made a mistake. Thereafter it will be random. I recommend it to everyone and see it as the future of shopping, more so than internet shopping.

Sometimes go to Safeway myself but agree with you that it is a little more expensive than other places. They do seem to have a good reange of offers - but then you need to buy the things on offer to get the benefit! Thanks anyhows! C.

Not all Safeways are this nice - my local one looks very sorry dor itself and the staff look p*ssed off at having to be there. I only shop there because its the only store within walking distance of my house and I have no car.
