Advantages: It's closest to my house, Good offers
Disadvantages: VERY EXPENSIVE
I have to shop at Safeway as I don't drive and it's less than a 10 minute walk from my house but be assured I wouldn't if I had a choice. Why? Because they are so overpriced it is unbelievable. I sometimes get to shop at Sainsbury's if my husband takes me in the car on a weekend, and price comparisions are laughable. Safeway charge 75p for the bread I buy whereas Sainsbury charge 69p. Safeways peppers are 10p more expensive The new snack-a-jack snacks and Uncle Bens Rispinos are also overpriced in Safeway by about 5-8p a bag. I could go on and on and on..... Their only saving grace is that when they have offer they have good offers. Four Fresh Chicken Breasts for £2.99 is great and I often stock up and fill the freezer with them!!! Overall though I don't feel that their special offers make up for the huge inflated prices. It makes me sick when I realise how much I am overpaying compared to someone who shops at say Asda or Tesco. Watchdog recently did a survey and found the cheapest supermarket to be Asda followed by Tesco then Sainsbury's then Safeway as the most expensive. BEWARE THE PRICES!!!!!!!!

- 05/04/02 I do prefer safeway's fresh produce and meat though! |

- 05/04/02 That is so frustrating - I have a Sainsburys round the corner from my house so I shop there, but I hate it. It is always crowded and they often run out of basic items! The problem with these big supermarkets is that they have a captive market of people who live nearby with no transport so they have little impetus to change their pricing or service! |

- 05/04/02 We have just done our weekly shop with Tescos rather than Sainsburys, it was about £1o cheaper so there are big price differences out there.
Enjoy the site it is a great place to share experiences. |
