Advantages: special offers, refund and replace service, helpfull staff

Disadvantages: overpriced essentials

I do not do my shopping at safeway for one reason and that is that it is so much dearer than its nearest rival.

I noticed a while back that everyday items are a few pence dearer with milk being 4p dearer for a four pinter, and own brand bread being 2p dearer. When you add these small price diffences up I'm sure that it must cost a few pounds more each week.
I was totally disgusted though when I went to redeem a coupon for a free pack of 16 tampons. The cashier scanned them through the machine, I handed over my coupon and she told me that I had to pay 43 pence. I told her that the coupon said FREE, and that I wasn't satisfied that I should have to pay this and she contacted the store manager who said that because Tampax put on a RRP, they could only claim this amount back from them and because they were sold for 43 pence above the recommended retail price I would have to pay the difference, which I begrudingly did assuming that the same price would be charged in all the supermarkets. Not the case, upon visiting Tesco, I found that they were selling the same pack for 45 pence less than Safeway. A disgusting price difference if ever I saw one!

However the weekly offers that Safeway have are absolutely unbeatable, selling Persil Washing up liquid for 39p (89p usually) and chicken fillets for £2.99 (£5.99 usually) but why can you buy only three of each item? As a cat owner I get through several tins of Felix a week, but when they have it on offer I'm ony allowed to put three tins in my basket, and unless I'm prepared to starve poor Tommy I have to trek round the supermarket three times. Not a very good option if you have to lug your shopping round on all three occasions!

I must say that the aftersales service is particularly good though, they operate a refund and replace on unsatisfactory goods if they are Safeways own brand and I've used this before after buying some chicken that was smelling none too healthy.

br>A shop to go to for bargains, but there is no way I could afford to shop there for all my groceries

Did the pack have the price on it?

If so, safeway have to sell you that item at that price by law!

I can't stand Safeway. They never seem to have any meat left when I go and the general range of food is very limited. The muffins and croissants they make are nice though!

Good op.
