Advantages: None unless you avoid the re-scans

Disadvantages: Time wasting

I thought the Safeway Shop and Go scheme seemed really good, as the bit I most hate about shopping, is the unpacking and packing at the checkout. So I thought this scheme, where you scan the shopping as you go along sounded just right for me.

So, I gave it a few trys but it repeatedly came up for a re-scan at the end.( and this wasn't because I had forgoten to scan things on previous visits!)

On one fatefull day, my husband and I were doing the shoppping and he didn't want to use the scanners because of the rescans. I assured him that I couldn't get picked for a re-scan again! So after 1 1/2 hours doing the shopping, because it does take longer scanning and packing as you go, I was in a state of disbelief when the machine told me to be re-scaned again! My husband told me to leave the shopping, and he walked out of the shop!!! And the queue to be re-scanned was about 5 people deep!!! So what did I do- I left the shopping and let my husband do it somewhere else later that day!

And the really annoying thing was I missed out on all the bargains I had 'brought'.

I think the idea was good. Maybe Safeways underestimated the amount of items some people would try to get away without paying for, and then had to increase the number of re-scans to keep this in check. My advise- shop the normal way and take your husband to do the packing!

Well Ness, my experience of shop and go is just the opposite, I have been using shop and go locally for about 15 months and have had less than a dozen rescans. Apparently they are done at random - you must have been unlucky

I reckon this scanning thing is OK when you are alone, checkouts are a nightmare without someone at the other end to pack and Safeway don't always have someone available to help. My wife and I rejected the scanning system at the outset, we got it hopelessly wrong! We'd missed some items and scanned others more than once!

I have only been asked to rescan a handful of times in all these years. i find the scanner invaluable for keeping track of what I've bought, PLUS you can make sure that the goods scan on at the price you were expecting, great for bargain hunters - and that way you save having to trek to the customer service desk sometime later for a refund! I play to win! :)
