Advantages: Good offers, quality food

Disadvantages: Can be expensive on some items

Out of all the supermarket 'Big Boys' - Sainsbury's is my favourite! There are a number of reasons for this. One reason is that Sainsbury's is very close to the town shopping centre where I live. I can park on Sainsbury's, do my shopping in town and then get my groceries.

I really like the layout of the Sainsbury's store. I can find everything easily. It is not too big, nor too small. The decor and the lighting are attractive (I find Tesco's floor pattern not very appealing!). Overall I find it a very pleasurable shopping experience.

I also feel that the quality of the fruit and vegetables, meat and bakery products in Sainsbury's are first class. There is a wide selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, including organic and Fairtrade items.

There are always a good range of offers in store, particularly in the meat section - chicken breasts, bacon, sausages, steak, stewing beef, minced beef, pork chops are regularly on offer. I tend to stock up on all the meat items when they are on promotion as meat products tend to be the most expensive items I buy.

Sainsbury's also do a good 'value' range and I find the quality of their 'value' products impressive - Sainsbury's 'Basics range' uses minimal packaging with simple orange and white designs in order to keep their prices down.

In particular, I usually buy their toilet roll at just over £1 for 12 rolls. I also like their canned tuna at 36p. At the other extreme they do some very fine 'special' products in their 'Taste the Difference' range.

When Sainsbury's reduce their items, such as their bakery products it can be very cheap - like 10p for Danish Pasties, 10p for a french stick etc... I haven't yet worked out the best time to get these bargains.... I do know it's usually later on at night though or on a Sunday just before the store closes.

Sainsbury's regularly run a promotion on petrol such as 'spend over £50 and get 5p a litre off petrol'. Such offers are very welcome in the current economic climate.

I also regularly receive a 'Sainsbury's' magazine through the post which contains money off vouchers. The last magazine contained about 6 of '£6 offif you spend over £60 vouchers'.

I have to admit I am also an avid collector of Nectar points. For evry £1 spent you earn 2 points which can be used to purchase special items or can be redeemed against your shopping bill. So far this year I have managed to amass nectar points that equate to £120. This will be used for all those extra items I wil be buying at Christmas.

Sainsbury's also give tokens to customers which schools can redeem for sports equipment via the 'Active Kis' scheme.

Sainsbury's curent slogan is "Try something new today". Since 2000 Jamie Oliver has been heavily involved in promoting Sainsbury's and its products. More recently Sainsbury's have come up with the 'Feed Your Family for a Fiver' campaign. TV adverts show Jamie conjuring up 'wicked' meals for under a fiver.

Despite my liking of Sainsbury's - I am a discerning shopper and do realise that on certain items Sainsbury's can be more expensive for some products - so I regularly compare prices and get the 'more expensive' products elsewhere. One such example is 'Biotex' which is about 40p dearer at Sainsbury's than at most of the other big supermarkets!

My local Sainsbury's does much to help the 'local community'. Very often on Saturdays various community groups and organistations ( and their buckets!) can be found helping customers to 'pack bags'. I have to say it is not something I particularly like as I prefer to pack my own shopping - but it does show Sainsbury's willingness to 'help others'.

So if you have not shopped there before, why not 'Try something New Today' and visit Sainsbury's?

Summary: A pleasureable place to shop
