Advantages: Good quality food
Disadvantages: self service tills dont work
Sainsburys is a chain of supermarkets in the UK. They range from small local ones in towns, to huge superstores where you can buy clothes as well as food.
Sainsburys tend to have a reputation for stocking good quality food, at prices a little lower than waitrose.
In Leeds city centre a small sainsburys has opened, and it seems to be very popular. I personally like the fact that they always have offers on drinks so its cheaper to go here than to greggs for your lunch. They always have a lot of reduced stock that is nearly out of date. Its not a place to do your weekly shop though, theres not enough stock, the shop isnt big enough and Morrisons is a few doors up.
The larger stores of sainsburys are usually well stocked, although when i come home from uni Im always shocked at how much more expensive similar products are than in Morrisons.
They also have a basics range, which does tend to be of a higher quality than morrisons own brand. Its cheap, the packaging is basic but no one really cares about that. The staff in sainsburys that I have visited have been helpful and tried to keep the queues at the till down.
The new sainsburys in leeds that is a bit larger by the st johns centre has the worst till system. Their self service tills dont work properly, and they only have about 4 manned tills leading to massive queues when the self service tills break. The shop has loads of stock, but this is no good if you cant buy any of it!
I will continue to use sainsburys if I am in town and fancy a snack, but not the larger one, as the self service tills really annoy me!
Summary: Only for lunch as morrisons is cheaper!

- 28/03/09 I agree. Sainsbury's is staggeringly expensive, with a few well placed loss leaders. Shop with extreme care! |
