Advantages: Nice store environment, good range of products, friendly staff
Disadvantages: None (unless you park for more than 2 hours)
Shopping at Sainsburys is a relatively new thing for me. The small store in town near to my workplace closed down a couple of years ago...but as luck would have it a new store opened nearby just a few weeks ago.
The first thing I have to comment on is how great the building looks. It is a new build and I understand this isn't always the case, but it is just lovely. Most of the outside is either glass or wood cladding. It is in quite an old area of the town and doesn't look intrusive at all. Real thought has gone into making this an attractive, aestheticly pleasing building.
The next thing is the car park. the spaces are huge! Great for me and my dodgy parking. But here's the tricky bit.... each space has a little sensor in it, when your maximum time of 2 hours is up an alarm goes off somewhere and you get into trouble!! Now, some of you may think this is a horribel idea...I think it's great. it means there is always plenty of parking, you don't need to buy a ticket, and it stops you spending too long in this lovely supermarket spending too much money.
Inside the store is lovely. Air conditoned and nicely spaced out. All the staff seem very friendly and very smartly dressed. I really enjoy shopping here. There are always plenty of staff around and plenty on the tills so not too much of a wait in the queue.
This Sainsbury's store has a clothing section. The clothes are really reasonably priced and there are some very nice items. I bought some pyjamas for £6.00!! 100% cotton and they are great, very pleased with my purchase. There are mens, womens and childrens clothes in th TU collection (Sainsbury's clothing label) along with some shoes and accessories.
The homeware section is fantastic. They have some really well designed products, very stylish and affordable too. There is everything from bed linen and cushion covers to caserole dishes, dinner services and place mats.
There is a section selling books, magazines, CDs and DVDs, greetings cards etc alongside a quick serve counter selling sandwiches and other lunch items. This makes things super fast if you just want to grab a sandwich and get going.
Of course, they sell food too! everything you would expect from a supermarket including an instore bakery. I had always thought Sainsbury's was supposed to be a bit on the expensive side, but I haven't found this to be the case at all. I would say it is pretty much the same as Morrisons or Tesco. It's 'Basics' range is great, really cheap and the few things I have tried have been fine. The pasta is particularly good and I wont pay extra for branded or premium pasta anymore. There are always plenty of offers on, particularly buy one get one free.
All in all Sainsbury's is a winner for me!
Summary: Flavour of the month for me!

- 25/06/09 wow, i never heard of a parking scheme like that before! They should put that in our Tesco's, it'd stop me spending so long in the cosmetics section :D |

- 25/06/09 I certainly prefer Sainsbury's to Tesco - they've got better own brands and are more ethical for sure. |
