Advantages: Always fully-stocked, Nectar points
Disadvantages: Expensive, inferior quality, the bloody queues at the checkout
My experience of Sainsbury's are almost exclusively with the store at Crystal Peaks shopping centre in Sheffield. Other stores may be different, but this is my local one and the store I use most regularly.
I don't shop at Sainsbury's every week (Asda is our usual haunt), but we do regularly pop-in to get things like bread and milk if we're in Crystal Peaks.
This store is relatively new, taking over the old site of the UCI Cinema a few years ago. It's impressive inside, always clean and tidy and nicely branded to fit-in with Sainsbury's look.
Shelves are normally stacked pretty full and I can't ever remember a time when we've come out without getting what we needed - so credit to the store for that.
However, we don't generally like Sainsbury's too much... for a start it's more expensive than Asda, our trips to Sainsbury's always cost more. Also, we find that the food just isn't a nice - the fruit and veg in particular doesn't stay fresh anywhere near as long as it does when we get it from Asda.
My last gripe is about the queues for the checkouts. Whenever we go, there are always long queues and they never have all the checkouts open. It's very annoying as in my local store there isn't much room to queue and so you end up blocking the aisles with your trolley and getting very stressed! They have a person dedicated to sorting the checkouts out, but they never do their job and open a new till! They just watch you queue! Grrr!
On the plus side, you can collect Nectar points from Sainsbury's and like I said earlier, they're often fully stocked, but for us that doesn't excuse the higher prices, poorer quality and lengthy queues at the checkout. We'll be sticking with Asda.
Summary: Not as good as Asda... and I don't like Asda!

- 07/07/09 We've actually found that when we shop at Sainsbury's as apposed to our usual Morrisons we get better quality stuff cheaper. |
