Sainsbury's SavaCentre

I am currently studying in Edniburgh and the only supermarket within a reasonable distance is Savacentre. At home there is no Sainsbury's so this was the first time I had been in one and I have to say I was very impressed. I have been shopping there for two and a half years and I think that out of the supermarkets, Sainsbury's is the best. The Savacentre is huge and offers a massive selection of food, plus electronic stuff and clothes. Tesco's do actually have a 'Metro' store that is a two minutes walk from my flat but it is always crowded and the product selection is poor. SavaCentre is a Sainsburys that also sells electronics, clothes, perfume and probably even more things I have forgotten. Basically SavaCentre is a giant Sainsburys as the title says. The SavaCentre I have been to (White Rose) has a cafe and restaurant I think all SavaCentre's have these facilities. A shame there isn't that many SavaCentres around, hopefully more and more SavaCentres will open up. They tend to be out of town and connected to shopping malls. Savacentre is not a store that you can just pop in and out to get a few goodies, these few goodies will take you between one and two hours. I have never seen such a big variety of the same product in one store before. Take pies for example you need to buy a packet of four or six chicken pies and come away with three different packets containing of chicken and mushroom, chicken and vegetables and a plain chicken pie, and you wonder why your shopping bill has totalled up to around £100 a week when you shop here. Savacentre is the trading name of a small number of hypermarkets owned by J Sainsbury’s (JS). The 12 or so stores were originally set-up as a joint venture between Sainsbury’s and BHS (British Home Stores or rather its holding company whose name escapes me). The idea was that they were going to be bigger than the average JS store. Food was to be supplied by JS, clothes to be supplied by BHS and Mothercare; and other hardware by BHS/Homebase. At sainsburys savacentre, you can get anything from a pair of socks to petrol and a meal in between. They stock a good range of electrical items,plants,clothes, have a bakery in store and a good selection of fresh fruit and veg along with everything else your ever likely to need in your weekly shop. Even the car parks are well organised with disabled spaces and spaces for families with young children near to the entrance of the store.
