Advantages: Good offers, generally cheaper prices, range of products & popular brands

Disadvantages: Not all everyday prices are the best option compared to offers at other stores

I love my bargain shops and Savers is always one I pop into to see what deals they have. I must admit that I'm only giving this 4 stars, though if I'd have written this a year or two ago it would have been 5. That's because with the sales and offers in other shops, plus competing cheaper places like Poundland, Savers isn't always the best option.

I can't find any background on Savers, but I know it's been around for a few years now and although it doesn't necessarily spring to mind as a popular health & beauty store I've never been past an empty one. There seems to be a Savers store in most cities so they're fairly easy to come by, though they're not as developed as, for example, Boots, with online shopping, store cards, etc. The emphasis is on value, so you get better priced products just at the cost of pretty interior design, pricey advertising and so on.

There's a good range of general beauty products, for example:

> Hair products - inc shampoo, conditioner, sprays, hair dye and a smaller section for one or two bits and bobs like hair grips and accessories
> Bath & shower
> Body Products - such as sprays, perfume & foot scrubs
> Face products - good range of face wipes, creams, spot treatments etc
> Gifts - especially around christmas there's a better selection of small gift sets, like Lynx, along with your general 'smellies'
> Cleaning products & house bits & bobs - bits & bobs include tissues, candles, small decorations...
> Food - small range of chocolate bars and sweets, diet food etc
> Healthcare - Vitamins & minerals, over the counter medicine
> Make-up - depending on the size of the store you'll usually get at least one section for makeup; sometimes this isn't a popular brand so I'm not sure about the quality, but I have seen a basket on the shelf most time I've been in my local one with maybeline/rimmel makeup that's been well discounted

It does depend on the size of the store as to how much range and variety you get, but on the whole it's good, especially when considering you get a lot of popuar branded products at cheaper versions than other popular beauty stores. I'm not one for popular brands when it comes to clothes, but with shampoos etc I like knowing that it's quality stuff that wont make my head swell up like a balloon!

Prices generally are cheaper in Savers, though I find it's their offers that really stand out. For example, I bought a big pot of Dove moisturiser in there for £2 some time back, though it RRPs for £5/6. That said, not all of their usual prices are necessarily good deals, so it does pay to shop around and see what offers other shops have on.

I've found the service to be okay, though I've never had any problems finding anything so I've not really had to ask much in there, but it always seems friendly and helpful enough.

On the whole I would definitely recommend Savers, especially if you manage to bag yourself a bargain with an offer (a lot of the time their best offers are either on a poster in the window or displayed on a board outside).

Summary: A good place to bag yourself a bargain! :o)
