Advantages: Cheap, Cheap, Cheap
Disadvantages: None, None, None
I discovered this shop when I became a Mum - every penny was even more important! It's a bit like Boots without the pharmacy bit, not quite a chemist, so like Superdrug I think! It stocks: Toiletries - haircare, including hair colours, bath and shower products, deoderants, razors, toothbrushes, etc. Baby stuff - food (only cow & gate), nappies, wet-wipes, feeding equipment, baby toiletries. Cleaning products - kitchen/bathroom cleaners, washing powder/liquid, fabric softeners, stain removers, bleaches, toilet things, air fresheners, etc. Beauty products - skincare, moisturiser, some make-up, lotions, milks, creams, perfume, sun creams, etc. It also has a Health section - creams, ointments, tablets, medicine, plasters, vitamins, minerals & supplements. That kind of thing! But the reason I now shop there all the time and why I'm writing about it now is because it is SO cheap! I've found that Boots and Superdrug are generally priced about the same, but Savers is much cheaper. Here's a bit of a price comparison to show this: .............................................. ................................ ...............Boots...........Savers Cow & gate little jars.............................................. ..........49p...............35p Ambre Solaire sun block milk 200ml........................... £7.32...........£6.99 Johnsons baby wipes 72s............................................. £2.99...........£1.98 Lillets applicator tampons 16s......................................£2.14.... .......£1.45 L'Oreal Elvive keraprotein shampoo 200ml................£2.39...........£1.49 L'Oreal Elvive keraprotein conditioner 200ml............. £2.39...........£1.49 * Lynx body spray deoderant 150ml................................ £2.35 for 1..£3.49 for 2 (offer at present) Lynx shower gel 100ml............................................. ...... £2.20 for 1..£2.19 for 2 *At
the moment savers are doing 300ml bottles (50% free) for the same price!! Bargain! So, as you can see Savers is cheaper on a range of products! Occasionally, Boots works out a little cheaper - for example, when they do their 2 for 1 offers. With the L'Oreal shampoo/conditioner if it's buy one get one free in Boots it works out 51p cheaper and you get the points - but you'll have to run back and forth between shops to find out what's on offer where!! Some of the savings are not enormous so I think if you prefer Boots, perhaps for the points, you may not be persuaded, but when I shop I would rather save the money than points. I notice the savings as I've become a bit obsessed with price comparisons! The shop itself is well laid out, with products on offer (special prices, limited extras, 2 for 1, etc.) in big baskets with big signs. It's all well labelled, I've never had to check a price. There are several check-outs so the queues are never too long. The only problem I can see for you all is that there might not be one in your area! I'd never heard of Savers before discovering my store (Newport, South Wales) - it's in the In-Shops so if you have an In-Shops you might have a Savers! (By the way, when I wrote this the price comparison was a nice little table, but it changes when I save it! So I've had to add lots of little dots.............My apologies!)

- 17/10/01 Good op. You're right in saying that there might not be one near me (at least I don't think there is). Never heard of the place before. |
