Advantages: Lots of shoes, staff are clued up, great quality shoes
Disadvantages: Can be a bit pricey although usually worth it
Well, I am sure I am not the only girl in the world with a love of shoes, in fact I am pretty sure I am one of millions. Well girls (and guys!), if you love shoes then schuh is the place to go. You will probably have at least one branch of shuch on your local high street, if not two. They sell mens and womens shoes along with a few little accessories - mostly bags that match the shoes!
Schuh sell their own range of shoes as well as some of the big brands - e.g. converse, irregular choice, adidas, red or dead. I like the fact that they have a mix of brands and own-brand products as it means there is quite a range of prices and there will usually be something to fit your budget.
As mentioned above, the prices vary in schuh but if I am honest then I think they are a little on the pricey side. Having said that, the quality is very, very good. I recently bought a pair of red satin sandals for a wedding and they had a beautiful red satin bow on the back and a silver metal heel. They cost £50 (although I got a student discount of 10%) and a few weeks later I saw what looked to be the same shoes in New Look for half the price. At first I was pretty miffed but upon closer inspection the ones in New Look LOOKED cheap. They weren't well made at all and it looked like they had cheaped out on various elements of the shoes. Mine on the other hand look very expensive, feel very expensive and are still going strong a year and a half later.
The staff in schuh are usually really good, they are very helpful and always on hand to give advice, get your size etc. I find in some shoe shops the staff tend to steer clear of the customers in case they are actually required to do some work but not in schuh. In schuh they act like they really want you to buy a pair of shoes. I also find that the staff here know their stuff about the products. They know which lines run small, which run large and which will be the best style of shoe for a particular occasion. I find this very helpful, as sometimes you feel you know more about the product you are buying than the so called expert who is selling it to you.
All of the schuh stores I have been in have been well laid out with plenty of room to sit and try shoes on, and plenty of seats. The shoes are displayed according to their brand usually, although sometimes there is a section dedicated to a particular type of shoes (e.g. boots). I never have any trouble finding what I am looking for in schuh and if I do have any questions, I know there will be someone there to answer them!
A quick tip if you like schuh is to search on ebay for schuh products because they actually sell off extra stock in an ebay shop. They do this with all the brands and I often see some bargain irregular choice stuff on there. If it is in the shops right now, it is unlikely they will have it but if you saw something a while ago that you liked and would have bought if it had been cheaper, get yourself on ebay and take a look! It's worth a try and if it saves you a few quid then it's definitely worth it.
Summary: A great shop if you're looking for shoes to last and shoes that look expensive.
