Description

Select is a high street fashion retailer which caters only for women at the younger end of the market. They have stores of varying sizes in most major towns, and are similar to New Look in that they sell 'cheap and cheerful' fashion for people on a budget.


Pros

- Dependant on the size of the store, they do tend to sell a wide range of clothes and accessories, and the ranges are updated frequently to include the latest fashions.
- They cater for a fairly wide size range, from 8 - 18.
- The prices are extremely cheap in comparison to other clothes shops and their range is always easily affordable for most budgets.
- The changing rooms are usually spacious and light, with a small bench, a full-length mirror, and enough hooks to hang the clothes you're trying on as well as your own clothes as you take them off.
- The staff are always helpful and friendly, and usually efficient.
- They do not have a problem processing returns and exchanges quickly and with a minimum of fuss.
- They often have sales with many items at rock-bottom prices, making them even more affordable.
- The stores never seem to be busy, so you always have the space to be able to browse at leisure.

Cons

- Most of the clothes are VERY poor quality. You do on occasion get the odd item which will last well, but generally the stitching tends to start coming away or the colour fades after a couple of washes.
- The stores always look messy and even dirty, with a lot of the clothes in a jumble and in the wrong place.
- The fit of the clothes is very variable. You can try a size 8 and it will be too big and a size 14 will be too small. I think it's the worst shop I've found for this.
- They don't often offer tall or petite sizes, or extra leg lengths on trousers.
- The changing rooms have curtains rather than doors which means you often get people pulling the curtains back to check if there's anyone in there, which is extremely annoying when you're trying on clothes.


Summary

This is a very cheap shop and you can find a lot of nice items in there, but you need to be aware that it is 'throwaway' fashion that won't last. And make sure you try everything on rather than just going by your size, as the sizes are wrong most of the time.
