Advantages: Lots of lovely posh food

Disadvantages: Oh, you have to pay for it.

One of the biggest surprises in the birth of the Trafford Centre was the appearance of a grand and fancy Selfridges in the centre of the complex, and while this did expand the region's expensive handbag options by a considerable degree, the new arrival brought with it a far more exciting development - the food section.

While smaller than its compatriot in London village, the range of choice crammed into the front section of the second floor is stunning. There are a good selection of sauces and wines, but it's the fresh food that makes it. Delicious indian food, a selection of cheese better than anywhere I've seen outside of specialist shops, and best of all, for those of us who developed strange tastes on foreign travel, a marvellous choice of biltong, with which to scare your work colleagues.
