Marks and Spencers in Dumfries is only really used for the foodhall, underwear and older women.Clothes shops ise if you are female slim and young you are catered for. However for everyone else it is harder. There is burtons for blokes but i'm not sure where else really. There is a mall Evans for the larger woman and the upstairs of Etam. I was born and bred a Doonhamer and know the town well. the shopping area is based on the High Street and all the streets radiating of it. One good thing about Dumfries is it is comapct. You could walk round it in 15 minutes. The Hgh Street shops are average. You have Woolworths, Boots, Superdrug, New Look etc. The new Loreburne centre was opened about 16 yeas ago and it has never rell flourished. Shops have come and gone and have never staye due to high rents. The problem is that the shops seem to be smaller than some and seem to be limitted. I have always thought that for the size of population Dumfries has too many shops. "Is there such a thing" she cried. Dumfries is a well laid out town, mostly pedestrianised and shopper friendly. I'm sure most women could have a go at spending most of the day there. The town itself has a good mix of local stores and the usual department stores. In relation to the usual household shopping all the main stores without exception have moved out of town for ease of access and parking for shoppers.
