Advantages: Excellent range of shops, fantastic atmosphere, simple to find way around, clean streets
Disadvantages: None for me
Glasgow has of recent times had many areas undergo huge improvements including many of the shopping areas which have made the experience a lot more enjoyable and relaxing.
The main areas for shopping in Glasgow are Sauchiehall Street, Buchanan Street and Argyll Street and I normally get the train to Glasgow Charing Cross station and proced to walk from here and along these streets in the order shown.
The shops on offer on these streets range in prices and products with just some of the shops shown in the following list:
Hawkins Bazaar, HMV, Game, Gamestation, Primark, JJB Sports, Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile, Dunnes Stores, Argos, Marks and Spencer, Ann Summers, Borders, Waterstones, Clintons, Lush, River Island, WH Smith, Monsoon, Next, House of Fraser, Body Shop, Debenhams
There are also a number of eateries available including:
China Buffet King, Karma Sutra, Antipasti, TGI Fridays, McDonalds, Blue Lagoon
So far it may seem like I am just listing names but this is simply to offer an idea of the variety of places on offer. There are regularly street performers out who help to give Glasgow city centre a real buzz and a fantastic atmosphere which I have not experienced in any other city.
There are also other shopping areas in the same area with St Enoch Centre (currently undergoing a huge refurbishment) and Buchanan Galleries. There offer shopping opportunities in indoor shopping areas with food courts and a variety of shops also available in both of these places.
So why give Glasgow a chance?
Positives:
- Huge variety of shops
- Excellent atmosphere thanks in part to street performers
- Well lit, maintained and clean streets
- Places to eat
- Bus routes, underground stations and train stations placed around the city
- Simple to find your way around the city centre
- Clean and well maintained stores
Negatives:
- Very busy which some may not like but for me this helps with the atmosphere
If you love shopping then Glasgow is a simply amazing experience and well worth a visit as the shops on offer are brilliant and in a centralised locale meaning your visit can be done with a day of walking along streets without worrying about getting lost.
Summary: Glasgow is an experience and so if you love shopping it is somewhere worth a visit
