Leicester quite frankly used to be rubbish for shopping. The city centre has just undergone a new development in which the existing nucleus shopping mall " The Shires" has been expanded. At the begining of September 2008 on the 4th, i went along to the launch of "highcross"( the extention to the shires). The complex is primarily a clothes shopping destination but there are also impressive resturants and cafes and a CINEMA (Cinema De Lux)!!How great is that.120 exciting and inspiring stores, including Ghost, Reiss, Hugo Boss, Apple, G-Star, All Saints and more. Leicester is one of my favorite places to shop - it has plenty of shops& malls, but it's not so big that you spend more time walking around than shopping. I'm going to review the main shopping areas here & give abit of information about them. The Shires - The Shires is Leicesters biggest mall. It's currently undergoing some work as they're extending & refurbishing it, but all the shops are open for buisness. The Shires has a wide variety of chain stores, including Debenhams, Rackhams, Bay Trading, Disney Store, shoe shops, gadget shops & many more. (For a full list of all the stores, visit www.theshires.co.uk) There is a food court, ...  Read the complete review

If you are planning to come shopping in Leicester in near future don't, unless you have to. The council embarked on an overambitous improvement plan about a year ago and it doesnt look like they are going to finish it this milleneum. What they seem to do is dig up one street, leave it, start somewhere else and basically make it a hassle for anyone that lives or works in Leicester. I work in a store in the city centre and I asked worker outside my shop when they would be finished - "Dunno, maybe some time next year" was the the reply. One day i'm sure they will finish it, maybe when hell freezes over, but i'll be long gone by then. If they do ...  Read the complete review

My family are leaving Leicestershire in a months time after a few years living very happily there and so I thought that I had better take the chance to write an opinion on Leicester and it's shopping facilities before I leave. After all if there is one thing I know it is shopping. Leicester city centre really isn't too bad for shopping. I mean if I had a choice I would probably go somewhere else, but it has everything you need, music stores, clothes shops both high street and designer, jewellers, home furnishings, sports shops, I could go on, but you get the gist. ~~Getting in to Leicester to shop~~ Before deciding to actually shop in ...  Read the complete review
