Advantages: Most of the places are near each other.

Disadvantages: Not London!

If you want to shop in Plymouth then there are few ways that you can go about doing it. I've lived in Plymouth for 27 years and in my eyes there are three places that will probably get you everything you need.

The City Centre.
This is the main place where people go to shop. The new mall has recently opened and it has an array of clothes shops, shoe shops and other outlets like Hotel Chocolat and Waterstones. You can buy just about anything and everything in the City centre and all the shops are close together which is very convienient. At the bottom of the town is a big Market place which is rather cheap and cheerful and if you come to Plymouth at the right time of year then they often have craft fairs and food near the Sundial.

If you are driving then there are plenty of car parks so you won't be stuck for spaces although it can get very busy on a weekend. Most car parks do charge a fee and if you manage to find spaces outside of the car parks then you will probably find that it's permit parking only.

The Barbican.
The Barbican is around a ten minute walk from the City Centre so if you want to shop there then it's probably easiest to park in the town and walk.

The Barbican is a little cobbled street that has lots of quirky shops down the road. If you are looking for a present or something that is a bit different then I suggest you take a walk to here. There are plenty of little Jewellery shops and tacky little shops that have bits and bobs in them. There are galleries that have paintings of local artists and there is even a big glass shop which has some really unique pieces. If you can't find anything you want then you could always pick up a bag of Fish and Chips or even some freshly made Fudge from the fudge shop.

Mutley Plain.
I wouldn't recommend coming to Plymouth to shop at Mutley plain but if you are in the area and can't really be bothered with big crowds then this is the next best place. It's around a fifteen minute walk from the town centre so it's not too far to go.

If you like charity shopping then this is the place for you. There are loads along the plain that you can look in and try to find a good bargain. There is also a Boots and Superdrug, a flower shop and some other nice little shops. It's not huge and there isn't lots of shops but I find it useful if I need to buy something but really can't be bothered to trek into town and get it.

Marsh Mills.
Marsh Mills is basically situated on Marsh Mills roundabout and is about a fifteen minute drive from the City Centre. It's basically a retail park which consists of furniture shops like DFS ad Furniture Village. There is also a PC World and other what I would call 'Boring' shopping places. If you want to kit out your home then go there and you will find everything you need.

Over all there are some really nice places to shop in Plymouth but I'd recommend that you start at the City Centre first because the chances are, you will find what you are looking for there.

Summary: You can find everything you need in Plymouth.
