Winchester isnt the best place for shopping, in particular there arent many trendy affordable brands. My favourite shop in winchester is New Look, which has all the latest fashions and you also get student discount. The big department store is debenhams, which is ok but not as good as the one in southampton. There are loads of resturants and cafes, so Winchester is a nice place to hang out for the day, but if you want real shopping then go to southampton. from a tourists point of view i guess that winchester could be said to have a unique and quirky shopping vibe. but from a commercial point of view, its not all that great. the high street has a lot of history and character but winchester just does not have the size to accomodate the bigger chains. our biggest high street retailer is debenhams and even the winchester branch cant compare with those you find in the bigger cities. the high street also has all your basics: whsmiths, boots, all the high street banks, next, marks and sparks, hmv etc. the brooks 'shopping centre' leaves a lot to be desired. some of the stores have shut down and been empty for months. the market ... Winchester contains a mix of shops to please most tastes. Department stores such as Marks and Spencers and Debenhams, supermarkets, and the usual high street essentials such as boutiques, chemists, stationers and so on are all present, so the local shopper is easily able to equip themselves with the fundamental requirements of life. But beyond that, and maybe more importantly, can be found a variety of “different” shops that dare to stray aware from the tried and tested products.
