Shopping in New York in generalNewest Review: ... to admit that my best friend was not so fortunate. She was dressed in baggy torn jeans and an old shirt of her husband's with no makeup- and one snobbish salesgirl kept looking her up and down and then stayed close to her tracks. There is nothing more annoying to be treated like a thief in a store and what else could we conclude apart from the fact that in order to be treated like a customer at Jimmy Choo, one has to be perfectly dressed with the right amount of makeup! I have to say that this was quite a disdainful end to what could have turned into a perfect shopping trip. I admit that Jimmy Choo is regularly visited by fashion models ... more |

Being an avid traveler, I have toured various islands and continents with my friends and/or family, and thanks to that, I have had the opportunity to shop for wonderful things in some really, really cheap bargain places. But, the best place that I ever shopped was undoubtedly in New York. Yes, it is outrageously expensive, yes it blows away your credit card limit in a single moment and yes, it most certainly blows away all the hard earned money saved up for travelling- but if you ask me, it is worth the glitz and glamour of shopping down Fifth Avenue! I would say that a shopping spree in New York is quite a shopaholic's dream come true: There never is a lack of things to ... Read the complete review

Let me start by saying that I'm not a designer girl, I like to look nice but don't like to pay over inflated prices for a label. I shop in New York not especially for bargains but for different clothes to what everyone is wearing here - the bargain bit is an added bonus! My shopping heaven is New York, I've been known to travel with hand luggage and go home with a huge new suitcase full of new stuff! So here's a list of my favourite stores (in no particular order): Macy*s Herald Sq - Most importantly if you go to the visitors centre with your passport (mezzanine floor above jewellery) they issue you with an 11% discount card which you can use on ... You can find everything you want and need when it comes to shopping in New York! There are endless shops and huge department stores to choose from which have everything under the one roof! One of New York's most famous department stores is Macy's which is located on Herald Square. It is worth visiting this store even just to have a wander around. There are about 8 large floors which stretch away back with floors dedicated to toiletries and gifts etc, menswear, womenswear, sportswear and coffee shop areas. There is a wide range of choice ranging from cheaper brands to the more expensive well known designer brands. It is easy enough to lose your bearings in this ... Read the complete review

The first thing to really say is although the £ $ exchange rate is nowhere as good as it was a year ago (nearly $2-£1), there are still plenty of bargains to be had, and for sheer variety you can't really beat NYC !! The first thing I would recommend is Macy's on 34th St, it's the best deptartment store in New York and is the largest in the world, if you can't find what you want here, yopu won't be able to find it anywhere, and as a bonus they always seem to have a sale on !! Personally, although Bloomingdales, Barney's and Sak's are worth a trip, they are far more expensive and less user friendly than Macy's !! you will find some nice stuff in ... No trip to New York is complete without a visit to some of their world famous shops! Although my recent holiday was not really a shopping trip we did visit a fair few of the big ones so I've decided to give you a run down of some of the highlights for me. The nice thing about the shops in New York for me is that they are all pretty close together so you can spend a day walking around the city popping into the different shops on your way. They are also very grand, flash and quite exciting, every shopper's dream really. This is why tons of people from England go over to NYC to shop every year, for the experience as well as to take advantage of the favourable ... Read the complete review
