“ Everything your child needs for play time. Smyths Toy Shop caters to baby, toddlers and junior kids for indoor to outdoor. „
== INTRODUCTION == Here in Wigan we have a newly built Smyth's shop, which I have to say I am glad about as we used to drive to Preston for the nearest toy shop. Smyths is nothing more and nothing less of a toy store for all ages, there is not usually a problem in finding a product that you want, well that is in my experience. This shop certainly comes in handy when shopping for toys for the kids, whether the toys are for treats, birthdays or Christmas there is something for everyone they sometimes have offers on so worth looking in and see what is there and available, and grab yourself a bargain. == ABOUT THE WIGAN STORE == When I first walked down to the store, I entered the store by automatic double doors, which lead me into a huge shop filled with toys, bikes, beds, scooters, you name it its there, it's a lot like toys r us., although you probably have more choose in products at toys r us. I have enjoyed my experiences at Smyths and always managed to find what I am shopping for, products are always in stock when I have shopped here, and even when the shop is crowded its easy enough to walk around the shop with it being so big. Smyths is based on a retail park so you can imagine the popularity the shop will have, especially when you're walking around with kids. The store is only one storey high so there is only one floor, but it is big enough to hold enough products to cater for kids of all ages, without shopping else where. I heard about Smyths on the television and I said we something like that up here in Wigan, and now we have one, and saves us time and travelling to Preston to go to the popular toys r us. == PRODUCTS, QUALITY AND PRICES == Like I have mentioned there is something in here for different age ranges, something for babies and toddlers, to the bigger kids. Babies - You will find a wide range of baby toys, beds, cots, bedding, baby monitors, toys, pushchairs, you name it its there, although I don't need to be looking in that section I still do. I cannot tell you what the baby section of toys and things are like as I haven't bought from that section as I don't need to. But there is a lot of stuff there to keep your baby warm, happy and occupied. Toddlers - Now here you will find anything from the building of blocks to bike riding, there is so much for you to see, again I haven't really had the need to buy anything from this section, although like the baby section I do tend to still have a browse around. There are a lot of learning toys, soft toys, outdoor toys and indoor toys available in this section, and will keep your child happy and content. Preschoolers - You will find electronic games consoles, games, board games, dress up clothes, role playing toys, drawing, writing, colouring and painting, reading books, bikes, scooters, bags, dinner sets, musical instruments, you name it you can find it here and love looking around to see what I can pick up for Ethan. Big kids - You can find in this section board games, jigsaw puzzles, musical instruments, consoles games I am not sure if you can buy the consoles or not I think you can, bikes, scooters, there are so many things its something you would have to check out for yourself. The quality of the items I have bought from here are great especially for the money you pay, I bought a child's guitar from there, which didn't last long but was only made out of thin board, it didn't take long for Ethan it break it, but it did only cost me £4.99, with it being in a half price offer. I have bought the small board books from there too and Ethan loves them and to this day he still has them, great quality. Some toys I would say are great quality some are not but does depend on what you're buying and how much your paying I guess. The prices are not as expensive as places like toys r us, although some products can be a little expensive in my opinion. Most of the products there do look very sturdy and very strong in make, and they are the toys you want to be buying for your child especially if they are a little heavy handed. == Staff & Parking == The staff are very friendly and helpful, there as been some people that have bought things that are on the bulky side and the staff have asked them if they want them to carry it to their car, most of them have smiles on there faces although some are miserable. The odd occasion you get asked if you want some help or whether we are looking for something in particular so they can help with the finding of the product. There are always someone there to help whatever you need or want, even though the shop can get quite packed at times especially at Christmas time, you can always find a cashier empty, so no queues are formed. Parking is never an issue as with the store being situated on a retail park there is always somewhere to park, maybe not always outside the shop but close by, this is a huge help especially when your shopping for many products or something bulky, at least you don't have to walk far to your car. == FINAL THOUGHTS == I am ever so glad that this store was built near us, with parking so close to the shop. I have been here many times and enjoyed the experience I will also be shopping here again very soon especially when Christmas is around the corner. There are so many products to choose from it would take me ages to mention them all, but with this shop being the same as toys r us without the cost being so expensive then I am sure you will get the general idea to what the shop is and what it sells. I like the way the shop is set out so it is easy to find things, girls being on one shelve, boys being on other, babies on another, and bikes and scooters altogether. When going into this shop with Ethan it can cost me quite a bit of money as he wants everything, and he is so excited as you can imagine any kid would be, its toy heaven.
Smyths Toy Stores With Christmas coming up, a trip to Smyths was in store, and not just for the children's presents! Some items even come up cheaper than its rival chain store of Toys R Us! Smyths also have a loyalty card which helps save a little more. There is so much variety at decent prices by trusted brands. A perfect place to visit for old and young alike - I did not want to leave!
Smyth's Toy Stores is Irelands largest toy retailer started in 1987 by four brothers. It rapidly expanded throughout ROI and curently has 20 stores in Ireland, 6 in Northern Ireland, and another 11 in England, and 1 in Wales. Additionally they have a large online catalogue with home delivery available. The stores are very large and well stocked with a good variety of items. The store is terribly large, which makes getting around it difficult for disabled, but staff are willing to go and get you an item if you ask. |Most items are competitively priced - but I find Amazon leap and bounds cheaper for video games. I have to admit Smyth's has a huge range of toys, they are conveniently located for us, and on many items very reasonably priced. However, I think they over charge far too often, and would advise anyone shopping with this chain to very carefully check the purchase price of every item. Be prepared to stand and wait for very long periods of time, if you do wish to buy an item at the price marked, or wish a refund after being over charged. They also tend to always have staff very rushed, as staff never has time to help you find anything or answer a question, and while they do have a staff member dedicated to customer care for baby goods and car seats, the information given us I think may have been incorrect when told the Graco car seat I bought was designed for age 2 and up, but in fact looking at reviews it may be age 4. My husband returned from Smyth's today, with a toy priced at £27.99 and a receipt showing our credit card was debited for £29.99. After several hours trying to contact the store, and being hung up on once, I finally got through to manager who has agreed to post out the difference in vouchers. In our conversation I mentioned that this has happened a number of times before with Smyth's and was told that they were doing me a favour to let me have the item for the price marked. I was informed that they frequently had items on offer, and the stickers would not be removed before raising the prices again. It was the customers responsibility to check each price for accuracy. When I mentioned that the store must make quite a lot by customers not noticing the inaccuracies I was told yes, but it is an honest mistake --- hmmm an honest mistake that makes them a fortune! My impression was that it was anything but a mistake, and instead a shrewd trading practice. Of course that is just my opinion, but it does seem a coincidence that there has never been a mistake in my favour! I also mentioned that this is illegal, as I used to work in retail and a violation of trading standards. Again there was no real concern on this issue, basically, well we are giving you your £2 back. UPDATE AND IMPROVED RATING. I felt very angry that it took so long to get back £2 I was charged, but in all honesty, Customer services did eventually sort the matter. I have noticed in the last year that I have not been overcharged again, and so can only assume they have taken measures to correct this matter. I still check every receipt very carefully though I still think they are often understaffed - and management yells at the staff too much - a practice I despise. But in all honesty, they do have a great selection of toys at a fiar price and the original complaint seems to have been sorted, so I am giving a new rating absed on the stores more recent performance. I do feel when a business improves, due credit should be given.
I was at Smyths tonight and I really enjoyed my trip. After visiting the store and website last feburary I must have got signed up to their emailing list and subsequently received an email last week offering £7 off for any spend over £25. I am not very familar with my local Smyths toy store as my son is only 18 months old and I have only visited it once before, I have always went to other toy stores that are more conveniant to me. However, I had a few things in mind I wanted to get for christmas for my little boy this year and after checking out Smyths website I thought I would take a trip over tonight with my voucher. It is a large store with a very large selection of toys ranging for newborn stuff to drinking board games actually. It is very well laid out and easy to navigate around. I got my son just what I know he'll love on christmas day. The most important thing being a 61cm Barney soft toy.... I know how old and irritating is barney!? and never on TV anymore but for some reason my little boy has always been obsessed with barney DVDs and now anything barney he sees. Barney is not the easiest charcter to get your hands on and online I have seen the large Barney priced £50. I also got him the new bob the builder singing and dancing toy that he has had his eye on, usually £24.99 but down to £16.99 in Smyths, I also got a couple of other things, a Thomas the tank etcher sketcher was £19.99 now £9.99. I though these were great bargains seeing we are on the countdown to christmas and I would have paid full price for whatever my son wanted anyway! I even got to the checkout with all my bargain and had a £7 discount voucher which meant everything I got came to not much more than £50 and would have been alot more in my other usual toy shopping destinations. All in all, very happy with Smyths and will defnetly be back for future toy shopping escapades.
