Newest Review: ... sake. Not me, not anymore, I thought that the merger with the Co op might improve things, but it hasn't. Just walking in the shop, the floor and shelves are dirty, the shelves are also a mess! The fresh produce, which is one of the first things you come to, looks disgusting, the fruit is more often than not bruised and going bad, I have seen an awful lot of mouldy fruit left out there. Whilst they used to be a reasonably priced supermarket, prices have gone up, whilst their standards have gone down. They do not have a good selection of products at all, they are filling their shelves with more and more of their stores own brand, which i... more

Premium Review Somerfields: Somerfield, not a super supermarket! (190 words)

Somerfield have always been in our town, no matter what they used to be called! It is closer than the other supermarkets so very often people go in there purely for conveniences sake. Not me, not anymore, I thought that the merger with the Co op might improve things, but it hasn't. Just walking in the shop, the floor and shelves are dirty, the shelves are also a mess! Premium Review Something about Somerfields (499 words)

I noticed most reviews here on dooyoo about Somerfields were bad, so I decided to write one myself to share my experience. I must admit I do not so fancy it myself as most things are more expensive than other supermarkets esp since it's been merged with the Co-operative (which I definitely don't like) but overall, it's not that bad. Somefields is definitely not a big supermarket but not as small as convenient store. It does offer a wide range of stuffs, including its own value brands, some of which I find quite reasonable priced and good value for money. Their own brands are not so much differently priced from other own brands (e.g. Asda's, Sainsbury's, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Somerfields: Somerfield-Cooperative Merger (399 words)

Somerfield has been my local supermarket, the biggest and the best, in the many years I have lived in our small town. I feel that I have always had good service, pleasant advice and help and excellent value for money from Somerfield, that is until recently. I was chosen last year as the customer of the month and the local manager was very kind, attentive and helpful when I explained to him that I did product reviews and surveys on various subjects relating to supermarkets. This has all changed now, since the merger with the Co-operative supermarket. They say in their advertising that they are welcoming Somerfield to the Co-operative family - how I wish they had ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A good supermarket but struggles to compete with the biger s ... (1002 words)

In my town we have 3 main supermarkets and we choose to use Somerfield most often. It is on the edge of the town centre but has a decent size car park and is usually easy to find a parking space. Somerfield has never been able to compete with the bigger named supermarkets such as Tesco and Asda, but it also can compete with the cheaper supermarkets like Aldi and Lidl so it is stuck somewhere in the middle. Well actually we soon won't be calling it Somerfield, as it has been bought out by Co-Op (i'm not sure if all Somerfields have been bought out or just a few, but i know ours is changing as it is already stocking several Co-Op branded products on the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Somerfields: Somerfield - a supermarket chain that needs a makeover (301 words)
by - written on 12/07/09 (Useful, 58 readings)

Plymouth has (to my knowledge) 3 Somerfield Supermarkets, one in an area known as Southway, another in an area called Mutley Plain and the third in The Broadway at Plymstock (which is almost like a seperate town to Plymouth). My experience is that their shops are similar in comparison to the likes of a Tesco Metro or Sainsburys Local, or in terms of Plymouth - Plymco (which is a chain of shops run by the local coop), but in general their prices are significantly higher. I am constantly disappointed when entering their shops, particularly after receiving regular leaflets through the door of promotions that show very reasonable offers. It does remind ...  Read the complete review
