Advantages: Some good food, convenient

Disadvantages: Rude staff, understaffed, long queues at till

My local somerfields store is always jam packed. There are only 3 tills for the main shop, and one for 5 items or under.
Its in Headingley in Leeds and is therefore kept in business by students who dont want to get the bus to Morrisons for cheaper food.

I use this supermarket every thursday when Im on my way to my friends house from the gym. I always need a meal after the gym so we get 2 of their ready meals for £3.50 making it a cheap meal. The ready meals are quite large and definately fill you up.

The staff here range between extremely friendly and helpful to weird and just odd. I once asked a man to change me some eggs as some were broken and he did so very quickly. Once the cashier didnt even say one word to me not even the price of the shopping I was buying. How rude.

The good thing about this shop is that you can sometimes get a student discount. Its random every time but worth asking. Sometimes they ask you if you have a somerfields discount card, others just ask for a student card. Its 5% but its worth asking if your buying a lot of food.

They sell a small selection of everything the big supermarkets sell, they also have some good special offers sometimes. The only thing is that fruit and vege are very expensive, as are things like toilet roll, alcohol and chocolate. They have a small magazine section but often are a few issues behind and the magazines are always in a mess.

They seem to be constantly understaffed, as the queues are so long and not all the tills are always open. Its a small supermarket, and I try to avoid using it for things like milk and bread which I get from the corner shop. Its good however for things like juice, pasta sauces, and washing tabs.

Its a strange brand, as Ive never been to a large somerfields store, but if it keeps the students happy then its a good addition.

Summary: I only use on a thursday!

We've got quite a large store just down the road from me that I use for things I've missed off my on-line shop.

They always have offers & discounts labelled on the aisles but you have to check your receipt as the tills haven't always been updated. I end up in there a few times a week & at least once a week I have to query the receipt.

They must love me.

A nice review

My wife worked in somerfield for 16 years, yes they did have some good offers she loved working there but unfortunately it closed down, although she did often complain there was no staff.

I have found the food at somerfield doesn't seem to be as fresh as other supermarkets.
