Arisaig is a small village on the west coast of Scotland it boasts a hotel a tea room and a Spar shop. the next shop is 8 miles away in Mallaig.
We were staying in self catering accommodation here in Arisaig this June .We shopped for the bulk of items in fort William before we got to Arisaig , so were only going to use the Spar for top up shops bread milk and the like. When we visited this shop we realized we did not need to have bought so much in Fort William's larger supermarket.
The Spar shop is situated on the sea road next to the Cafe Rhu it faces the bay. This shop is not very big about 4 or short aisles. However I think you could buy most food items you needed or an alternative here. When in the shop we saw locals and visitors here too.
There is a freezer with fish fingers, beef burgers, peas, chips, and ice cream, some ready meals too amongst the other items. There is as mall butchers section .Then is a row with toiletries and you can get household items like washing up liquid, clothes wash products. Breakfast cereal and tins of beans, tins of soup are available amongst the tinned and packaged foods. You could buy stuff here to bake a cake there's flour eggs sugar and in the chiller cabinet butter and margarine there are cold meats, pate and cheese available for those sandwiches. Yes of course there are crisps and sweets, holds an off license so you can buy your beer and wine. When you stand at the counter to pay there is a small ice cream maker, you can order your whippy type ice cream and it will be made for you. Daily papers are sold at this shop and you can buy post cards to send home you can buy stamps her as there is a post office counter in the shop too. There is a cash machine also you can top up toy mobile phone here
I think this shop takes orders for food too
We found the staff in the shop pleasant friendly and helpful they were able to direct us to other places in the town and other local information; there was always a smile and a word for the children. (Our grandchildren are sweet angels anyway)
Overall this is an excellent small Spar shop prices as you would expect in a small shop.
In 2006 this Spar shop was runner up in the Neighborhood Shop of the Year Award
This shop is not a 24 hour shop I can not remember opening hours, something like 8.30 till 6 or 7.
If you are going up to this area and want to know or even order a few goods in advance then phone 01687 450226
Summary: A small shop in Arisaig

- 28/09/08 Spar is definitely pricier than supermarkets but it is SO handy if you are pushed for time. |
