Advantages: Large buying power
Disadvantages: Not uniform in what they offer
Spar is itself an international group of franchises, the UK version of which concentrates on convenience over pricing.
When I used to work in one of the stores we used to get a lot of passing trade which over the course of a day really did add up, even though the prices are quite high when compared to some of the supermarkets or larger stores that you can find in most areas.
How Spar operates is that it is basically a big distribution chain, the group as a whole negotiates with suppliers for the special offers and then each individual store or franchise decides which offers they will put on, this therefore means that whereas with Tesco you can go into any of thier stores and see uniform offers, in a spar shop you are likely to see differences depending on its position or how the franchise owner wants to run it.
It really depends on what you value, do you wish to have everything at the lowest possible rate but have to get this all at a time which may not be as a convenient for you as you would wish or are you happy to pay that little extra knowing that you can come back at 8o'clock and pick up what you need.
Overall its you decision.
Summary: You get what you pay for.
