Sue Ryder Care ... Ryder, with the creation of a nursing home in Suffolk, UK. There are now 17 Care Centres in the UK — 6 hospices and 11 neurological centres. There is also a growing Homecare service. The charity also provides support to 30 projects in 11 countries in Europe and Malawi. I used to work at a sue ryder shop & can vouch that the staff there were not 'do-gooder' personalities or snooty as some of the other charity shop workers can be everything is carefully unpacked, sorted, steamed and carefully priced and labelled . the books are individually checked as are bric-a-brac items - all cleaned. most of my time was spent steaming clothes - a thorough but necessary job undertaken by most of the staff at one time or another all goods were gratefully accepted and carefully sorted - some folk donate really top quality goods but others need to be collected by the rag man as they are so awful. a volunteer expert came in ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sue Ryder Care: Charity Shops - Sue Ryder Foundation (202 words)

The work undertaken by the Sue Ryder Foundation is marvellous and I only wish this charity was supported by more people. Patients in their hospices are given the greatest care and treated kindly but, at the same time, as individuals. In my opinion, their charity shops are the best. Real bargains can be found if the time is spent searching through the rails, shelves and boxes. My experience of the Sue Ryder Charity Shops is not one of strolling into a 'posh store' (as now seems to be the way of similar shops) but to enter a basic but cheerful store with helpful staff and goodies displayed on shelves, rails or in cardboard boxes - all ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Worthy Charity - poor support (160 words)

Sue Ryder is an excellent charitable organisation which help many people. It is just a little unfortunate that they have so much competition particularly in Scarborough. There are so many charities competing for our support. Sue Ryder has a shop in Scarborough but the location of it means that the customer base is not too large. It is situated away from the town centre. We have been into the shop on many ocassions but their stock is somewhat depleted. On the positive side, the stock they do have, is very clean and well presented. I feel that if they distributed bags for collection or leaflets asking for goods and informing people of the charitable work they ...  Read the complete review

I think the work the Sue Ryder Foundation do is simply wonderful,we have a hospice in Peterborough that is run by the Sue Ryder Foundation,my mum came out from a weeks stay there just last week. Patients get the very best care and attention possible, even down to a small posy of flowers on every meal tray...I thought that was a wonderful touch. Our local Sue Ryder charity shop is a bit of a way from the town centre, they seem to have a great deal of clothes, shoes and handbags, but the Bric a Brac section consists of a 3 foot wide shelf just as you go in the door,in comparison to some of the other charity shops here I have never found much I have wanted to buy,I ...  Read the complete review
