Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: little support, no advice
Superdrug are a chain of chemists, largely, althought to my knowledge they only handle the 'over the counter' stuff and don't seem to go in for the serious medicines and prescription stuff. They sell a broad range of health and beauty products. They sell products for men, women children and babies. There's nothing very far off the beaten track here, but they can quite often be cheaper than other high street chemists. Baby stuff - from bottom wipes and nappies to baby food, Superdrug offer a significant range of baby goods, including much own brand materal (quality and price ok but not stunning.) They carry very little that's organic, nothing for people using terry nappies. They are one of the few stores that carr ythose Bounty pack things you can get free as a new mum - assuming they have any in stock. Cleaning products - all the usual suspects here for toothpaste, soap, gel - from the simple and finctional to the (in my opinion) daft and excessive. A range including named brands, elsser known brands and own brands. Beauty Products - face creams and all the pots and potions you could imagine (its amazing how much some people can imagine, and I'll confess I wouldn't know what to do with half of it.) They carry plenty of hair decoration and styling products and a considerable amount of makeup - again you can expect brands like Rimmel, and less known stuff like 'sporty girl'. Health products - plenty here for the home first aid kit - all the basics, the pain killers, the vitamin tablets. The only thing I would be wary of is, this isn't a shop to go into if you don't know what you need - advice is not forthcoming and often the girls on the checkout will only be able to tell you where something is. If you need help, go to a larger store where there are staff who are in a position to offer advice. Range - smaller than you could expect in somewhere like a Boots, but rpetty good on
the whole. Price - almost always cheaper than Boots, not always cheaper than Wilkinson. Staff - functional, based on expereince of various Superdrugs. These are not committed, motivated, inspired people, these are people doing a job. They do it well enough, but it tends to be very much 'no frills'. Usually there are not quite as many of them as you might like - a shop that tends to suffer from queues at peak times, and as previously mentioned, they don' tend to be any use for advice. If you know what you want, you don't need any help and you want to spend less, this is a good place to go. If your needs are more compelx and include advuice, or you need a prescription, this shop will be of no use to you whatsoever. I've always had a perfectly reasonable time of it shopping at Superdrug - I find they are handy for baby wipes, skin cream and the like. Where I can, I prefer to buy more eco friendly stuff, and they don't carry much that way, which is a significant flaw in my book, but there are so many products where more environmentally friendly alternatives are very hard top come by indeed. (Femenine hyigene products to name but one.)

- 02/03/05 A third of Superdrug stores have pharmacies with a qualfied pharmacist and trained pharmacy counter staff so to say its not a place to get prescriptions dispensed would be misleading as you can!
