I actually work in a supermarket, I won't say which company I'm with, but we are struggling.
The supermarket trade is now unbelievably competitive, and in 5 years time there will be very few companies left to cater for your basic shopping needs, eventually the only choice will be to go to a huge out of town site, or pay a fortune at a little corner store, some may think that is fine, others may enjoy the personal service a smaller, more community based store can offer.
Either way, the big 2 will eventually rule the supermarket world, who are the big 2?, Wallmart and Tesco, they are the only companies that are making any real money.
You may be thinking hey what about Morrisons, well I don't think you'll be seeing much more of Morrisons, I hear that Wallmart are going to be buying them soon, if they can buy a growing profitable business like Morrisons then what can they do to the struggling firms such as Safeway, Somerfield, Kwik Save and Sainsburys.
If you have a smaller supermarket near you I urge you to support it as best you can, because soon you wont have a choice in the matter, and with monopoly comes higher prices, and nobody wants that.
