It is a real shame that in their 30th year of trading in the UK that Tandy is to fold. The fact is that other reviewers have accurately identified the lack of direction that Tandy had with its product range. This is where Maplin's have got it right and credit to them. There are some dark corners of the world where Princess Anne wielding a marital aid might be considered the stuff of fantasy, my dark corner isn’t one of them. Once upon a time in a galaxy far far away, I worked in Tandy. It was the first job I got after leaving University, I put saving the rainforests and trekking across the Antarctic on hold for a while, those things can wait, Tandy clearly needed my services. Where have all the Tandys gone? If you live around here, you may think that's a damned fine question. The answer is a bit tortuous, but here goes. Tandy Shops became a subsidiary of Carphone Warehouse. The latter presumably had a cold hard look at the suitability of many of their sites. Some of those that were considered surplus to requirements, were changed to Tecno Camera shops, another subsidiary of Carphone Warehouse. Soon afterwards, the Tecno shops were sold to Jessops. Joining Since opinions here are meant to help out people, I’m not really sure what the point of this one is, considering Tandy doesn’t exist anymore. This is probably more of a retrospective piece of writing. I began working for Tandy in late 1999, first at the Cowley branch. After that closed, at the Oxford branch. I remember my visits to the 2 Tandy stores when I was a kid and they did many bits and pieces. Bulbs, resistors, and electronic components, stuff like that. I used to enjoy shopping at our local Tandy Store until that is it started going down hill. As an electronics enthusiast I used to be able to purchase most of the components and accessories I required for my projects from here. Sadly they no longer stock these items and there range of products is now some what limited which is a real shame. As an electrical retailer the product line they offer is quite poor although you will find they sell some items you will not find in other major electrical retailers such as novelty electronic gadgets, electronic toys and the like.
