Advantages: Friendly, non pushy staff, excellent product choice

Disadvantages: Read the small print on those warranty offers...

Like KathrynPenguin, I thought I would recount the more positive aspects of Tempo. As with all electrical products, things are fine until they go wrong and it tends to be human nature to only speak out when things go wrong hence the reason I think that most of opinions on shops like Tempo will be negative rather than positive.

I went to my local branch in August 1998 and purchased a 21" JVC TV and a JVC Video Recorder. The assistant was so helpful and knowledgable that it took me by surprise. He didn't try to talk me up to more expensive models and was sympathetic to my requests. So far, I have had no problems with these products.

In June 2000, I went back there and bought a washing machine, a Dyson Hoover, an upright Fridge freezer and a microwave oven. How about this: I was served by the same bloke!! Nearly 2 years later... now that is rare these days. I did take out an extra warranty on the Dyson; 5 years for £59.89. Seemed a good deal to me. The product is still in the manufacturer's 12 month warranty and hasn't gone wrong yet so can't report anything there. The only applicance that has gone wrong is the washing machine and I have written an Op at length under Indesit WDG 1295 on this site. I contacted the Tempo store for a service number and, amazingly, got the same bloke again!! He booked the engineer for me despite it being under Indesit's guarantee and was also apologetic. I do not believe this good service is just because I have contributed to his monthly sales sheet on a couple of occasions.

Perhaps the only thing I would point out and this is where I dock Tempo 1 star. I was offered an extra 3 years warranty for I think it was £150. I decided not to take it up. The Indesit engineer offered my a 5 year warranty to cover unlimited callout charges (parts are covered for 5 years anyway) for only £70. Personally, I have always wary of retailer's warranties; they have had bad bad press over the years and
unfortunately, they do not do themselves any favours.

Hello there mate! dont mean to be rude but you sure that Indersit's warranty was not for one year because their advare call out charge is 69 pounds?

Yes, they are another electrical retailer but still privately owned I think. The engineer was an Indesit employee and stood to gain nothing unlike the shop assistant who I assume is on some sort of commission.

Never heard of Tempo, are they like Comet?
If the engineer could offer you half price warranty who's ripping who off?
Is he doing a foreigner?
