Advantages: can shop from the comfort of your sofa, no more trolly rage!
Disadvantages: There are no pictures of the items you are buying
Picture this, it is 11pm, your freezer is empty, the milk has gone off & the cats have been living on tuna for days. Yes, quite a common situation in my flat.(Please don't call the SSPCA - we do feed our cats!) Well the solution is here - Tesco Direct.
First of all, you need to register on the site, the usual details, name, address, email, choosing a password etc. Then you can proceed to the shopping section. It is then arranged in various ways to shop.
You are able to search by department, or by your favourites, by the Tesco Finest range or by typing in a list of items for the site to search for.
Ordering can take a while, but once you get used to it, it's not to bad at all. Especially usefull is the "My favourites" section, for when you ordered that really nice bottle of red wine, but you can't remember what it was called, the favourites section keeps track of everything you buy on the website AND also everything you buy in the shop itself.(Through your clubcard)
The layout of the ordering system is very good & fairly intuitive, even my technophibic gran has managed to get the hang of it! 9 times out of ten you can get a delivey slot the next day, I've managed to get one the same day once. They use 2 hour delivery slots from 8 or 9 in the morning until 10 at night, so there should be something to suit everyone.
If something you order isn't in stock, you can choose whether they should replace it with something similar or not at all. If they do replace something and you don't like it you are under no obligation to accept the replacement. I have found them to be very good with refunding you for items you have returned, and only once have they missed something out of my order.
The prices are guaranteed to be the same as the ones instore, as are the special offers, quite often they also have offers that are exclisive to the website.
I think it is well worth paying the e
xtra £5 delivery charge, some might call me mad for doing this as I live about 20 mins walk from a 24 hour Tesco, but believe me, you try carrying 3 x 12L bagc of cat litter up 3 flights of stairs along with the weekly shop and then see who is mad.
As well as food, they sell books, cds, clothes etc. I tend to use Amazon for books and CD's so I can't comment on thses facilities. Pretty much a one stop shop (providing you can wait untill the next day for it to be delivered of course)
