Advantages: Wide ranges, low prices

Disadvantages: The larger stores are usually situated in places that require a car to get to

With a Tesco in walking distance of my flat, I use Tesco quite regularly now. The one near me is a small shop, but very useful - it stocks most basic provisions (bar one that I, for some reason, couldn't find anywhere - parmesan cheese!), plus a little more. Food - including freshly baked bread, dairy, frozen, canned, fresh vegetables... toiletries, household items, magazines, ready-made lunches for those on the go... It's certainly very useful to have one nearby!

Better yet, the prices are actually very good - even in the current credit crunch, they've managed to keep their prices down as much as possible.

I'm a particular fan of the fresh pasta sauces they sell in plastic tubs, in the chilled aisle - delicious, and quite cheap. The Tesco basics range is also very useful, especially for a student such as myself - every day, the shop is packed with students.

The larger stores are also incredibly useful if you have access to one... They provide a wider range of the products mentioned above, plus other things such as clothing, DVDs, electricals, etc. The clothing, in particular, I'm a fan of - my most worn and loyal jeans right now are from Tesco. £15, and they've served me well, being worn about half the time. Good quality, and a good price.

Summary: Incredibly useful to have a store nearby
