Fine for bits and bobs

Disadvantages: Often over priced
I used to shop a lot at Tesco but have recently switched to Aldi for the majority of my shopping (see my review of that store). However, you can't get everything you need at Aldi and so I do still nip in Tesco for a few bits and bobs.
Tesco has a price guarantee programme whereby you can enter your receipt online and if other major supermarkets were cheaper, they will give you the difference back - they used to give you double the difference back but people were taking advantage of this and actually making a profit from some items (I miss those days)! This price guarantee is not as good as Asda's price guarantee which promises to beat their competitors (including Tesco) by 10%. In theory it should therefore be cheaper to shop at Asda - in practice, however, it depends because the price check covers all the items you buy and some are more expensive o=in one store and cheaper in the other so tend to even out.
Tesco has it's famous clubcard scheme which I feel has been diluted somewhat over the years and isn't as good as it once was. You collect one point per £1 spent in store and one per £2 spent on fuel. One point is worth 1p. They sometimes have deals whereby if you buy specific items, you will earn extra points but these seem to be less frequent than they used to be. You can use your voucher in store or use them for a variety of other things whereby they're worth more. In reality some of these deals are better than others because you may have been able to get that hotel deal or meal out cheaper another way anyway.
I do think tesco is over priced for many things but then sometimes they have some really good bargains. I think it's important to be savy and shop around if you can.
I think the clothes are inferior to Asda and generally more expensive.
Tesco is often the cheapest place in my local area to get fuel (although if you have a Morrisons nearby this usually beats it.
In terms of tesco as a store. I don't think it's any better or worse than any where else. It's layout is generally fine and the staff are as friendly or grumpy as anywhere else.
Summary: Fine for things you can't get in Aldi!
